|
|
I'm in the market for a new laptop. I want it to last me at least 5 years (Not hard, my laptop is already 7 yrs old. I'm still using DDR1 Ram) and the replacement has to be upgradable. I could pick one up when I drop by the states in a few months. But cause it's custom I'm not sure if I can get it in my time window especially if I've got to send it back for shipping damage.
Can anyone suggest custom laptop makers in Korea that can put together an English Windows laptop comparable to this one. After some upgrades it'll come out to roughly $1000:

Can't you find a stock model with those specs? Those specs are nothing very special. |

Yea there's a few but got to trade off screen size and give up the 7200 rpm hard drive. Of course I could always switch it out but, that's a pain. As for screen sizes, I've only owned a 17" laptop. So I've got no idea how much the gaming difference is between a 15", 14", and 13.3". Can anyone chime in?
What's the lowest screen size to play games comfortably? |

For a grand though in Korea?
You'll get a samsung / lg 13inch 2 ghtz, 2 gb mem, 350gb hd, standard graphics card for that in Korea if you're lucky...
Buy in the States if you're there.
Korea is way overpriced for computers as far as I can tell. |

Korea is way overpriced for computers as far as I can tell and from what Amercian friends who know a lot about computing have told me.
I heard you can get good deals on custom made desktops though. And I found some decent deals on ex-display models...
Never seen custom made laptops here though but I guess it might be possible. |

I thought about a desktop, more power at half the cost. But ultimately. I really do want to be able to bring it home with me. Plus I don't have enough space.
Can anybody tell me if there's a big gaming difference between a 15.3", 13.3" 14" screen? |

By the way, only one laptop can match the above specs in that price range. The ASUS K42JC-B1. And you trade off the screen and some of the processor |

1. Do NOT buy the laptop here. You will easily spend 50%, if not more, here than you would in the states.
2. I have owned, and gamed on, both a 15 and a 17, the 17 is noticeably better if you are using the laptop keyboard. But, if you use an external keyboard and sit a little further away they play about the same.
3. I wouldn't worry about screen size too much. The problem is that when you buy a 15 inch, everything inside is 'Mobile' which equates to less power and performance. If you can find a 15 with standard parts, then I would get it, but I have not seen a high powered one using standard parts that is not a 17 inch.
side note, if you do find a 15 inch that isnt using Mobile parts, buy it and get another display and connect it via HD. In that case, make sure you go for the 1920 x 1080 native resolution. |

My experience has been that at the moment, you will be hard pressed to find the Nvidia 400M series in laptops here in Korea. If you need directx11 support, I would suggest getting an ATI 5000 series card (the 5650 is similar in performance to the 425M) but you lose out on Optimus, not sure if that's a deal breaker for you. If you don't care about directx11, then Hansung offers some decent deals. I have the hansung sparq gtx545-i45, which is based on the Sager NP5125(it is the model before the 5135 you want) with a i5-450M, a fullhd screen (1920x1080), 2 gb of ram(you can upgrade yourself to 4 for about 50k), Geforce 330m(a tiny bit slower than the 425M, no directx 11) and a 500gb hd(5400rpm tho ). You will lose out on the special thermal paste, but I have had no heat issues so far, and also the Intel 6300 wireless adapter. If fullhd and 7200rpm are required, try a laptop from MSI, i think perhaps the ge600. Oh, and I paid about 950k for mine, which is a decent price. Perhaps a little overpriced, but with the exchange rate, it comes out to $860 or something like that, not bad at all if you ask me. |
