I am currently having issues opening/forwarding ports 6881-6889. I am using the Bittorrent client for DL'ing but am experiencing EXTREMELY slow downloads/uploads. I tried to configure the appropriate ports but to no avail. I tested them and discovered that all of them are running in stealth. I disabled my firewall (the Windows XP Professional built-in firewall) and restested and they still came up stealth. I have read that this could have to do with a router problem but as far as I know I am not behind a router. I heard that some cable modems have built in modems. I am using a Net&Sys MNG 2005 from Hanaro (sp?) but could not find any english information on the modem. Any of you have experience with this? If there is a built in modem how do I configure my ports? I am not sure what to do...all of the information that I have looked for/at has been useless. Any wisdom that any of you could throw this way would be great...I want FASTER DL's!!!

Try disabling firewall under XP.
Start>Network Conections>Network Adaptors (select the one you use)>Properties...Firewall (Disable it).
Other than that, I would have to see the actual machine, which is not possible! |

i was thinking that they are the ports that bit torrent uses so it might be best to ask a bit torrent nerd.
i read on 1 of those pages that bt 3.2 goes up to port 6999 while all earlier releases only go up to 6889.
its kinda over my head but the last link might answer your question.

Ok, time to run through a couple of things that'll hopefully help you out. :)
The cable modem is a modem, but it may have a built in router, which is quite popular on broadband modems (both ADSL and cable).
How would you check? Start->Run->"cmd"->ipconfig
Your IP address may be a public internet address, or it may be a LAN address, such as 192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.x (two very common lan addressing schemes). If you have a LAN style address, then you're in luck. You have a router/modem. If you don't, don't fret. Your modem MAY be a router as well, except that it's set to bridged mode, which means any routing functions have been disabled.
In any case, if your IP fits into the LAN addresse I've described above, you can tweak the settings on your router/modem usually by pointing your browser at the LAN side address of the router.
When you have typed in ipconfig, check the address of the default gateway. Type that into your browser. You may need some password which will be available in the manual. Then it is a matter of opening and forwarding the right ports.

What kind of performance do you expect.
I'm getting stuff from edonky a 7-8 kbs
torrents is faster, ive gotten 180 kbs
Do you think is 180 good? |

Hey thx for all the addi...things are running much smoother now...loving BT...what a great program! Screwed around in the setting for a while...ditched Windows XP firewall and got Zonealarm. To quote Korean McDonald commercials..."I'm Lovin' it!" Hmmm ya I think 180 KB/s is fast...I average anything fom 25 - 200 (although that high has been seen rarely). I do have one question...any other recommended BT sites out there? I am currently frequenting Suprnova but want to have a larger selection of music. Most of the other BT sites I have checked out are either in German or have massive porn pop-ups (even with google toolbar pop-up eliminator). Any other good sites out there let me know...

i dunno mate.. from my (limited) experience suprnova has the most torrents..
i have a bit of a problem with bt at the moment.. when i click on a file to dl i get a page of html pop up... no d/l 
any ideas? |
