ITT: Where can one find specialist guitar equipment in Seoul?
I'm looking for a good guitar shop somewhere in Seoul, or better yet Daejeon, where I can buy some new pickups for my electric. I also want a custom wiring job to give me more pickup selectors. I also want a general bridge tuning.
Anyone know a good place to get such services? Actually I'm specifically looking for one of those humbuckers in single-coil body to fit into my telecaster bridge position so if anyone out there has any advice I'm awarding +10 internetz. |

Don't know about Daejon but in Seoul you should check out MD in Hongdae. The guy has loads of pickups and what he doesn't have he can order you.
Gcat at Nagwon arcade are also good guys who do great work. I had them fit push pull pots so i could split my humbuckers.
Another idea, that might be a bit cheaper, is to buy the stacked humbucker from http://www.guitarfetish.com/
have it sent to you and then take it to a tech to fit them. |

Actually a push/pull pot is exactly what I want. I've got a Nashville tele, which has three pickups, and I want all options on them, so I want a system to simplify that.
Thanks for the advice, I've actually just heard that there are tons of music stores in Sinsa-dong, although this may be false info.
How much did your pots cost? Also, did you feel the pickups were overpriced (hence the import link)? |

Go to Jongno 3 exit 5 and you'll see a lot of music shops. The big grey building you see will be the Nakwon Arcade, and there are a lot of shops in there too. |

I've noticed, here in Daegu, That all the little shops that sell guitars have a little repair area in the back. I ask them about what repairs they do and many of them do fret work or wiring etc...
Check out http://www.willowsguitar.com/shop/main/index.php or
http://www.krakenguitars.com/
These guys might be able to do a little more than the average guitar shop.
The pots and stuff shouldn't be too expensive but expect to pay out the nose for Fender, Gibson, Seymour-Duncan, DiMarzzio etc... pick-ups
After my wife recovers from her surgery I'm gonna put together a strat of tele. I will get the body and neck from willows and probably order the electronics from stewmac. |

This thread is right up my alley. I own a 2005 American Fender Deluxe Stratocaster (H-S-S), and I'd like to get some work done on it.
It still plays and sounds amazing, but it's showing some wear in the electronics. The pickup switching is crackly, so I'd like to have that replaced. I also would like to be able to split my humbucker on the bridge.
While I'm there, why not have the fretboard cleaned and frets dressed.
So what I'm wondering is how much would these three things cost?
1.) new pickup selector installed
2.) coil tap installed
3.) fret dressing
Anyone had work done there in Nakwon mind giving me a rough estimate? |

Your switch might just need to be cleaned.
My guy in Daegu charge me 80,000 for 24 frets instalation and dressing.
The little stuff will probably be cheap. |

Hey warmachinenkorea, let us know how the project turns out!
Do you play in any bands here?
Ive been looking at doing a project as well and need to source some quality locally accessible partscould you tell me who your guy is? I assume his English is pretty good. |

I don't play in any bands. Just an interest of mine. I would love to jam with some people though.
The guy I use is in Banwoldang in Daegu. He is in the underground shopping thingy when you leave the subway.
His shop is called Guitar Maroo. It's a small acoustic showroom for this guy: http://www.marooguitar.com/shop/eng/index.html Lee Hyoung Kyu. His guitars are made in Daejeon. I've been impressed with every one of his acoustics I've picked up.
The guy that runs the shop does lessons, repairs, and sales. His English is managable and he is a cool guy. His name slips my mind at this second.
Banwoldang gets me turned around alot but the best way I know to explain is follow the green signs. If your going the right way you shoudl see a peircing place on your left. It's got a mannequin in the window that has a dog collar and other jewlery on it, keep going straight then you should see some steps going up. Immediatly after the steps you will see 88 Gameland on your right, keep straight and walk for about 2 mins. Guitar maroo will be on your left almost at the end. |
