The French can say all they want to about Americans but we don't set cars and gas station on fire when our government raises the retirement age to 62 from 60.

Yeah but the French don't go invading the middle East for control over oil supply whilst conning their own citizens that they are 'Liberating' it, so it all evens out in the end you see.

Very Happy

I totally support these rioters......don't let your government chip away at the rights our grandparents fought hard for.

The British know this well. Thatcher tried her best to dismantle the Welfare State in Britain during the 80's.

If you don't go out and protest you'll lose.

What? Lazy? How does being upset about having to wait until you reach 62 years old to be able to collect your pension equal lazy?

I am not one for rioting or protesting, but I do agree with not changing the law.

I wish we could all retire at 60 or even earlier. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Working is just a way to fund that enjoyment. I'm in my early 30s and my wife and I are saving and investing as much as we can so we can retire in our 50s.

And how exactly is this all supposed to be paid for?

By me? I'm supposed to finance your enjoyment in your golden years?

I'll gladly finance enough to make sure you have a roof over your head and health care. I am not financing your 'enjoyment'.

How exactly is this retirement supposed to be paid for? Take money away form the rich? More taxes?

The idea that there exists enough money to provide everyone with health care, maintain national security, offer retirement, good education, infrastructure, law enforcement, unemployment, national projects, etc. etc. is such silliness and its a shame how many people out there believe in it.

I love the French and their funny Gallic ways. They love to protest so much that even the unemployed have gone on strike to demand more money. They don't take merde from no-one.

Who cares, it's not like anyone can afford to stop working at 62 these days anyways.

Maybe you damn well should.

The French understand that the people in power will screw them if they let them - and they aren't going to let them.

No-one is asking you to fund anyone's retirement - pay your tax and I will pay mine and when we reach an age where we have put enough away, we can claim a decent pension - that is what happens in the more civilised parts of the world.

Yes, I know you want to pay as low as tax as possible, but one day, you'll realise that you pay enough tax for the fire department to put out your blazing house and not for them to stand there because you didn't pay 75 dollars annual subscription on top of the tax you pay anyway. Rolling Eyes

It is actually better to pay a bit more tax and get decent medical coverage when you get sick and not having to worry about going into astromical debt because you get seriously ill, making insurance companies rich - why on earth anyone would fight to uphold that system is beyond the thinking of everybody on the bloody planet! Rolling Eyes

Most Europeans admire the French in this regard because they do not let their politicians get away with anything, they have them on a leash, the people are in charge of the country - not the thieving, immoral sacks of shit who are governing the place - and eveyone knows it. The British could learn a thing or two from them. Wink

The French ponzi scheme is out of money. Oops, broken promise. Sorry Pierre, you're f*cked; you trusted us. C'est la vie, no?

The French are rioting in the streets, protesting against government, eh? Pity they didn't do the same in 1940. The French collaboration with Hitler culminated in 350,000 Jews being sent to Auschwitz. But yes - rioting so they can continue to retire at 60 and then sponge off the taxpayer for a further 20 years....that's the French all right!

Someone is going to have to fund the retirement eventually!

The last generation handed us a crappy situation where we have access to less benefits, less jobs and more expensive everything.

What the french are really rioting for is to hand in this shitty situation to the next generation.

The French welfare state is unrealistic in the long-term.

That said, French people are lazy? Bugger off.
