|
|
Sorry if this has been discussed, but I can't seem to find an official answer on this...
For those who currently have an F4, is it required that they get a criminal background check apostilled and degree apostilled for ANY job they get in Korea? Or is this requirement only for public school teaching jobs?
Does anyone have a link to the source of this information? I can't seem to find it on the hikorea site.
Thanks for any help. I saw a few random sites that say all F4s need a criminal background check, and I just wanted to confirm that. |

For an F4 visa holder, you gotta find out what your employer wants. You don't need that as far as immigration is concerned, but your employer may ask for it. |

You have to call immigration. There was a policy change that'll take effect in March or April. There's no English version, it's all in Korean. When I called them, I'm not sure if I understood them right, (They're not great at explaining things). Anyway this new policy might give a Korean ID number to all F-4s and if it does that, than military service is mandatory.
I need to call again later

On an F4 a CRC is NOT an immigration requirement for your visa
HOWEVER your employer can make whatever request they deem appropriate and that includes a CRC and verification of your credentials.
If you are applying for a public school position through one of the main recruitment "umbrellas" (EPIK / GEPIK / etc.) you can be expected to be asked to provide them along with references.
If you are hired directly by a PS then you may or may not be asked for them.

I heard F-4ers will automatically become K-citizens as they'll allow dual citizenship starting 1/1/2011.
Get ready to sing that K-cadence. "Hana, tool, set, net......" |

Interesting.
Not sure how a country would get around the fact that F4 visa holders had to RENOUNCE their Korean citizenship in order to get the F4.
Korea will grant dual citizenships for those who apply, but they aren't going to blanket naturalize all F4 holders. That's preposterous. |

I didn't need to submit a CRC or an apostilled copy of my diploma when I changed to my F-4 visa. |

OK. Excellent. Thanks for this information. Am I the only one who finds all of these visa and work requirements confusing? I mean, I know the information is there on an immigration site somewhere, but it just seems to take a great deal of effort to find it. |

Got a reference for this?
I've also been trying to get jobs with my F-4 and no one seems to know what's required. Some schools just want an apostilled diploma, others want the CRC...some don't care |

I have a feeling this is the K govt trying to close a loophole that currently exists. Wealthy moms are traveling to countries like the US to give birth. (I think this is called birth tourism.) This gives the baby US citizenship but also means that if it's a boy, he wont have to serve in the K army.
As for giving automatic dual citizenship for everyone else, I don't know. |

It's slowly starting to make sense.
Immigration wants one set of documents. If you're an F4, they dont care about your degrees or background checks. However, the MOE (Ministry of Education) wants their own documents. They are a separate government agency and they decide what goes on in schools. So if you want to work in a public school, you need the CRC and degree. (I think EPIK's website is a good resource even though not all public school jobs are through EPIK. See the section application/required documents. http://www.epik.go.kr/)
Hagwons have their own requirements.
I dont know if you need reference letters for public schools. The other English teachers need them. Does anyone know? |
