|
|
I've got about 5 years of experience in Busan, mostly with adults and two years at university. My university "cleaned house" and I returned to the US for a break. Now I'm looking for work again and I have been offered at interview at YBM Gangnam.
The talk of an interview was last week. It was the director's idea, I suggested this week because I had to recharge my Skype account and someone had recently stolen my debit card so I needed to get a new one, etc. I haven't gotten any confirmation on an interview yet.
Has anyone worked at this branch? I know Gangnam is pretty big stuff in Korea isn't it? I have been to Seoul several times but never worked there.
Anyway, please advise me on the interview process with YBM and any peculiar issues about this branch in particular.
Lastly, what's the update on the criminal background check? The director said that I should be ready to go with documents but couldn't say what the new requirements for the CBC are. |

IDK what the deal is;but may be you should stay where you are.
Also, before you go saying that I don't know/never meet you,
think twice ( we've had lots of private convs on PM ) and you were on my
facebook friends ( under different names though).
What ever happened to your Hanam job? |

Yeah, sorry... you DO have me confused with somebody else I'm afraid. Unless you are:
a.) a Korean
b.) a Canadian
and I never worked in Hanam.
Do you work at YBM in Gangnam? If you do then PM me on Dave's because I can't figure out who you are. |

Yeah, you pm-ed me one time about a Hanam City ATM.
I wouldn't be under the same name anymore ( had to take an
alias due to some ex stalker issues) and would like to remain anonymous
for that very reason.
Isn't your name Thomas? |

Cert, he asked a question. You insulted him from the get go mate. Stop jumping the gun. Be helpful, be witty, but don't be a dink mate. |

I'll try and be helpful here...
I've never worked for them, but I recall others saying it has it's own positives and negatives. The good parts are that you teach adults, and the pay is competitive and always on time, the downsides are that you'll end up working a lot and there seemed to be a lack of responsibility from the higher-ups. I seem to recall someone saying how their bosses were on a revolving door policy, constantly getting new ones who would quit shortly thereafter. Ah, and I just remembered they had a lot of split shifts, which can be draining, as you probably have heard.
That said, I'd like to see one of their contracts, you should post it in the review thread if you're offered the position. Personally, I won't teach kids anymore, so they've already got a thumbs up in my book. I'm just interested in the working hours. |

Can't really help you with the CRC info, but I can say a bit about YBM Gangnam because I worked there (although there are a few YBMs in Gangnam, so I don't know which one you're referring to).
Before I do, I have to ask why you're going from a uni job to a hagwon job? Don't you think that's a step down? I mean, you're entitled to do whatever makes you happy, but I don't think I could ever go from a uni job to the ol' split shift hagwon dance. But thats just me. I'd honestly suggest holding out for a uni job.
Anyway, no real complaints about management or the students. Everything is pretty straightforward and transparent, so there's no BS to worry about.
You will be doing a split shift from the start and prime scheduling is reserved for those who have seniority. The salary is what you'd expect from a hagwon. They give a housing stipend that barely covers what you need to pay for a place if you're living in Gangnam and they help you out with key money. Other than that, there's nothing much else I can tell you that you don't already know about teaching adults.
If you have any specific questions, let me know. Good luck |
