Usually, good movies have good soundtracks, and vice versa. I just saw "Watchmen" (may have had a different name when released in other countries) and I can't think of such a bad movie with such an awesome soundtrack. Any thoughts? There was one other, but I can't remember the name, as I saw it years ago. Something about a really annoying American chick with her boyfriend, interspersed with reasonable live music clips. Feel free to contribute good movies with horrible music, also. None leap to mind at present.

Elizabethtown. Big disappointment, and this from someone who loves Cameron Crowe, but the soundtrack is great... Ryan Adams and Paul Westerberg, among others- two favorites who deserve the exposure.

PS- You're nuts. Watchmen is a masterpiece.

What? Just to make sure we are on the same page, it's the one about the superheroes, right? What did I miss? A masterpiece it is not, in my opinion. I have to admit, though, it did pique my interest early on. Enough so that I watched all 9 hours or whatever it went on for.

To each his own. I found Watchmen to be very well done in every aspect of film I'm capable of understanding. It is visually arresting- great lighting/photography/special effects- and the story, though I know it's taken from a graphic novel, is very imaginative, in my opinion. It's well-acted, though most stuff is, and the action is really impressively done, and they really put an effort into the details, I felt.

I don't even like action movies or comic book movies much as a genre, but Watchmen blew me away.

I also liked how there aren't any stars in it. I have no shame liking many big name actors, but it was fun and refreshing how there were none here.

Why didn't you like it?

And yeah, I should add I use the term 'masterpiece' pretty generously sometimes. I think it's the best of its kind, though, at least.

Yeah I guess I'm a bit biased against the genre. I have to admit, it was visually interesting and the acting wasn't bad. I guess I just expect a bit more of a point from a movie that is so long. Don't get me wrong, I love long films. But I hate long movies, which is exactly what that was. Having said that, "Wild Things" is on TV right now. Makes me pine for "Watchmen"...

Just curious, and this is not a **** measuring contest or having a go at you in any way (I'm just curious), what would be a few of your favourite movies? I know it's a tough question, but throw a couple of titles at me. I'm a big fan of "Withnail and I", "The Big Lebowski", "Two Hands", "Lock Stock (etc)", any "Star Wars" and my guilty pleasure, "Mad Max", to name a few (movies, not films, that is).

I wonder which cut they showed on cable. I think both are long... the theatrical release was 2 1/2 hours or something, and the director's cut is a good three hours.

I'm also sensitive to that, but it definitely won my attention. I just watched it for a second time a month ago, but I caught the beginning tonight and had to force myself to turn it off because I had plans to watch another flick.

By the way, I've been trying to think of more movies for the original subject of this thread, but I can't. I'm so into music that I have trouble not being into a flick that has tunes I like in it.

Here are a few favorites, copied from my facebook profile:

Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Manhattan, Annie Hall, Fargo, Almost Famous, Adaptation, Vanilla Sky, Roger Dodger, Rushmore, Legends of the Fall, The Last of the Mohicans, Monster's Ball, Children of Men, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Punch-Drunk Love, Hard Eight, Jerry MacGuire, No Country for Old Men, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, Glengarry Glen Ross, Miller's Crossing, Barry Lyndon

I generally watch at least a movie a day. Anything I hear of or anything that pops into my head that I haven't seen for a while. It's actually getting to the point where I want to watch fewer, because the whole process seems lately diluted. Or they're all kind of blending together or whatever... so any time anyone asks me to recommend something, I draw a blank, even though I've probably seen five good movies the same week.

PS- Haven't seen Withnail and I or Two Hands and am downloading them now.

Also, I really don't get everyone's craze with The Big Lebowski. Solid, funny movie that, in my opinion, is about the fifth best from the Coen brothers. I don't know anyone can watch it along with Miller's Crossing or Fargo or No Country For Old Men, three of the best movies I've ever seen, and declare it their favorite of theirs. Can you help me understand??

Number 1 - I agree that I don't really have a good answer to my original question, either. If the question had been, "What's the best movie with the best soundtrack you can think of?" Blues Brothers, all the way.
Number 2 - I like all of those movies you mentioned, apart from a few I haven't seen.
Number 3 - I'm an Aussie, so I'm a little biased, but I really enjoyed "The Proposal". It might be one you haven't seen. I would never have heard of it had I not gone home for a holiday last year. Best quote - "Australia. What fresh hell is this?". Best Aussie-style western ever.

I hated 'Watchmen' with a passion... it brought nothing to the story except an alternate ending, some special effects, and a lot of that slow-motion crap. There was zero reason for its existence, except to remind people that the comic book was good.

And I thought the soundtrack was embarrassingly literal-- for example, they used 'The Times They Are A-Changing' over a sequence where THE TIMES ARE ACTUALLY CHANGING, 'The Sounds of Silence' WHEN EVERYONE IS STANDING IN SILENCE and 'Hallelujah' WHEN A MAN IS OVERCOMING HIS IMPOTENCE HA HA HA.

The Philip Glass stuff is great, but it was better used in Koyaanisqatsi... and the rest of it was just boring music from people with obvious tastes in music.

And Malin Ackerman has the acting range of a porn star--the comic book drawings actually seemed more like a real person than she did.

So yeah, this movie was a threat to my appreciation of the original comic book (which is great), and I have given serious thought to undergoing hypnosis in order to make me forget it.

I've seen The Proposal. Awesome. Liked it better the second time. A little overwritten by Nick Cave at times, but very good. Beautifully shot. I like gritty western style flicks, and I have a man crush on Guy Pearce. I also love Ray Winstone and Danny Huston.

Also, the score to 'Conan The Barbarian' is incredible, but the movie itself is kinda bad and even a little boring... the score makes it good. Download it and you'll see what I mean.

Also, I love 'The Shining' as a film, but the music really does take it into a whole new level. Kubrick was brilliant, but without Penderecki, his films would be slightly less than they were...

Number 4 - I just saw your last reply. "Lebowski" is just a bit of fun, but I love it, in the same way I love "Space Balls" or "Flying High". Certainly not the Cohen brother's best work, and no mistake, but it is still my favourite of theirs. Best quote from a Cohen brother's movie (from a Korean) "Embrace the mystery.". I think of that every time Korea confuses me. Just embrace the mystery, mate. Embrace the mystery.
