Started out good, but politics has reared it's ugly head into the mix and now things are not so good. the classes can be unruly if you don't get ahold of them from the start. Some days, they are not going to make it easy. Try to use as many visual aids and games as you can, keeps the kids engaged. otherwise, they will get bored fast and revolt on you. my co-teachers were adequate, but not always helpful. it's luck of the draw on that one.
if you are lucky, you'll get a good location in a good part of town. I wasn't and didn't. Come in with a good attitude and lots of ideas and you'll be alright.
P.S. the thread title is a bit ridiculous. There are hundreds of teacher in SMOE. /end disparaging comments |

i've been in SMOE for over a year now and i love my school (notice i didn't say SMOE). your experience will depend on where you get placed and your school. i've had 99% positive experiences with my school, but i have friends that have been placed in crappy schools and have problems.
overall, the SMOE contract is very similar to GEPIK, EPIK, and IMOE, however we get more vacation days and a travel allowance (instead of return airfare -- i'm not sure if other areas do this or the return airfare). we also have to put down a 500,000 won housing deposit, where i believe GEPIK requires 900,000 won.
it's all in where you get placed within SMOE, not the board itself. |
