I recently transferred a visa from one school to another. I began working on October 3, 2010, was paid half of my 2 mil won salary on October 20, and will receive the other half of the first month's wages on November 20. My first full month's pay won't be until December 20.

If I complete my contract I'll be working until October 20, 2011. On this day I would receive two month's wages ( Assuming severance is paid. )
I would like to bring the following up to my boss:

1) I worked illegally from October 3 to 20 and would like my 1,000,000 won payment to be for this period only.

2) I would like my next month's pay on November 20 to be my first full month's pay of 2,000,000 won.

3) I would be paid 4,000,000 won on October 20, 2011 and my boss wouldn't owe me a thing on November 20, 2011.

The contract states that wages will be paid on the twentieth of the month following the month of actual work. How would you go about bringing this up to a hogwan owner that you just began working for? Bear in mind that I'm tight on money.

Don't even bother. Enforcing illegal promises is like trying to negotiate tuna from a shark. If they need you, they will pay you eventually. It's your last pay you need to worry about. I'll talk more later on this.

Reasonable request. Tell us what they say. If they don't, then you will have problems later on.

If you have a contract signed and it says this, great. If not, ask for a contract. It's not so much to enforce, but it makes you and the school have some understanding when disagreements come up. If you come off demanding money instead of the contract, then the hagwon is more likely to screw you over more.

According to how I get jobs, this is too premature for me to deal with. Either I have a contract which already states these things, or any promise not in the contract to get the job is just talk. They could say, "Sure you'll get your 4 million won" now, but when the time comes, they will make excuses, "You didn't come on these days, students didn't come on these days. Sorry, we don't have to pay you."

Get the contract and hope for the best when the time comes.

I would NEVER EVER in a million years agree to this. They have a 1-7 day grace period after I give them one month's work. After that, I go to the bank closest to the school and call them up, "Make deposit NOW and I will continue teaching."
