Hey,

So Im coming to the end of my second year in korea and planning on heading to SE asia for a spell. A couple things that I've been considering getting before heading home (after SE asia) but not sure where the best place (quality and cost) would be to purchase them Korea vs SE Asia.

The first is I wanna get a suit made that actually fits me (Im tall and lanky) and is of decent quality

The second is that Im interested in getting my teeth whitened. I saw the big thread on teeth whitening prices etc in Seoul and alittle google research showed me that it could me much cheaper in Bangkok.

Anybody have experience with either of these?

You get much better value for suits in Southeast Asia. I rocked the Khaosan Road tailor thing and got two really nice suits for under 6,000 baht (which was overpaying). I've had a couple friends get suits made here for 300,000 and end up regretting them horribly. You're much better off getting it done there.

As for dentistry, I'd recommend getting it done here. You can get it done for cheap in Southeast Asia, but they won't do as good of a job. My buddy had two fillings done in Vietnam and had to get both of them shaved down when he went to a dentist back in Canada. He ended up saving a little bit, but the Viet job was pretty poorly done. Thailand is likely a bit better, but I'd still say Korea is cheap enough that I would put my hands in a Korean dentist's hands over that of someone from the SEA.

6,000 Baht = ~225,000 Won

Very inexpensive. I'm guessing the fabric is Thai wool, as any imported material, e.g. from Italy, would be more even with the much cheaper labour costs involved. Do you mind me asking how the suit is holding up? Do you happen to know how much it would cost for a suit in Thailand made of imported fabric, such as Zegna (assuming of course they really do use the material they say they do)?

No idea, but it's holding up really well, the stitching is great. It's significantly better than your cheap options in Korea are going to be, for significantly less money. And not 6,000 baht each, 6,000 baht total, 3,000 baht per. I don't know of anyone who's had tailoring done in Bangkok and has come out unhappy about it. Shanghai is meant to be even better. With how cheap it is, I'll just buy another couple next time in Southeast Asia, regardless of whether I can wear them day-in, day-out for years.

I'm off to Shanghai for the weekend soon. Anyone know of any good places there?
