What is the procedure now? I heard the embassy here no longer issues new passports/renewals and it's all being done via Hong Kong.

Anyone know what is needed to renew a passport? and how far in advance you can do it?

Just pop along to the consul at City Hall .... they are not issued here anymore - all are issued by FCO London - but the application is made here and then the new one is collected.

have you renewed here? Did you give the renewal application form to them?

I e-mailed the embassy in Seoul last week and they didn`t want anything to do with passport queries at all. Just sent me a link to the HK British embassy website. When I replied back and asked further questions, they told me had nothing whatsoever to do with the process anymore and wouldn`t answer anything.

So I`m assuming I have to send my application direct to HK...

FFS, everytime I went to the embassy in the past they were doing bugger all. They do next to nothing I think now.

Well, I have - twice in fact.

But I now read this on Consul's website:-

Quote:
Passports
We no longer issue standard (10 year) British passports at this Embassy. You now need to apply for your passport at our Regional Passport Processing Centre in Hong Kong. The Regional Passport Processing Centre website will tell you everything you need to know about applying for a new or replacement British passport.

Why have we done this? Please see this leaflet [PDF, 77.0 Kb, new window] for all the changes related to the way we issue passports overseas. If you need to travel urgently and your standard passport is not available we may be able to help you with emergency travel documentation:

So this is what you do ..
