I got mines in less than two weeks. I did not pay extra for rush. I just went to city hall and submit my application. One week later I received in the mail.
I don't know how much difference it makes but I live in So Cal.

I paid extra to get it in 2 weeks. I got it in exactly 13 days. My friend got hers at the same time as me, but did not expedite it and it took 5 weeks.

Same here. I didnt pay to have mine expedited and I got it (along with the new US Passport Card, I thought it would be cheaper to just get them together) in under 2 weeks.

I'm not sure if it helps that I lived in a major US city (Chicago) where they have a regional passport agency.

Yah, I think it also depends on where you live. I live in So Cal so it was process super quick. My friend on the other hand lives in a remote area in Michigan and had to wait almost a month before she got hers.

Got mine in 2 weeks, but I know a friend who live in So Cal, got her passport in 48 hour. Paid for expedited service, so she can go on a cruise.

You can get it in 1 day as well if you show proof you're leaving the U.S. for travel.
