The new Galaxy S-2 will be revealed within the next two weeks and will be officially released sometime in early 2011.
My sister-in-law is a Samsung employee and confirmed this as well.
Found this link with the specs.
http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/07/05/samsung-i9200-galaxy-s2-details-leak/
it's pretty much 2x better current galaxy s and will definitely kill iphone 4 hardware wise, which is why I think they are releasing it in Korea so soon after Galaxy s 1
Summary of specs:
* 4.3 1280x720px Super AMOLED 2 display
* 2GHz CPU, 1GB RAM/4GB ROM
* 32GB of built-in flash memory, +32GB microSD card slot
* 8 mpx camera with FullHD video recording
* A-GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n
* 3.5mm audiojack
* accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and ambient light sensors
So, better display, 2x cpu speed, 4x more builtin memory, 2x more ram, better camera and potentially other features.
I think with this release and the recently release tablet, Samsung is definitely set its mind on trying to take over the Apple lead in multi task gadgets |

Love the specs but not to fond of the design. Look bit too simple and plain |

I doubt that any phone announced this year will have specs like that. If they released a phone with those specs in early 2011, it would have to cost more than $1000. Don't get your hopes up.
However, if you are right, then I will have to eat my words |

Seems about right, Motorolla and HTC are rumoured to have phones with similar specs coming down the pipeline and Samsung has chosen to compete with them on the high end of Android phones, so they have no choice but to do this.
Seems a bit overkill though, I can't imagine developers wanting to push Android systems too hard leaving a lot of the users out in the cold. It also will put Apple under a lot of pressure to significantly update their phone for the next revision. The more the envelope is pushed the better it is for all of us.
I just wish Samsung could design nicer hardware. It's so plain and uninspired. Whenever I look at my Galaxy S I see an amazing phone trapped inside the most generic design possible. Even their touch wiz UI reeks of blandness (thank goodness for Launcherpro). |

Awesome spec.
I'd agree that Samsung haven't really found their voice yet for styling.
Isn't it mad how the Korean smartphone market is only taking off in 2010?!! I suppose it took the iPhone to kick it all off......but anyway, Korea has been a solid 3 years behind the rest of the world to get into smartphones......now they're going nuts for them!
Seriously, there's something about smartphones on the Korean news almost every night. Just about every Korean adult I know has got a smartphone in the last 3 months. Most Galaxy's.....some iPhones.
It just goes to show how much the Korean chaebol hate convergence devices.....they certainly seemed to hold off producing smartphones for as long as possible.......until KT forced the issue by carrying the iPhone.
The PMP and MP3 manufacturers must be feeling the pinch....I wouldn't buy any shares in Cowon or iStation right now!!
Who's going to buy a point-and-shoot camera now, if they have a smartphone. My wife says even the navigation on the Galaxy S is as good as any Korean Navi device out there.
These things are going to kill off at least four different electronics markets.
I'm a real-life example.....my point-and-shoot camera, camcorder and my PMP are gathering dust now....my MP3 player is only surviving because my car audio has a USB input so I can have English-lang radio in the car from downloads. |

The camera is good sometimes, but other times it's terrible, especially in dark settings.
Anyway it's unbelievable we can get a computer and monitor for cheaper than a cell phone now. |

Where exactly can I get a computer and monitor for under 176,000 KRW? |

about the galaxy s2 rumor page; if you scroll down a couple of inches, not too many people seem to think it's genuine. there's even a link to a page with a few reasonably good arguments for why it's fake. |

Well the rumor about it is not really a rumor. I found out about it from my sister in law who works for Samsung research department.
She said the plan is to have a new Galaxy by Jan 2011 and that I really should grow up and stop whining about her getting me a discounted galaxy S phone asap (her words exactly).
the official specs release will be in about two weeks |

I think it's more along the lines of a Galaxy S costing in the neighborhood of 800,000 not the average flip phone. |

My HTC Desire cost me 176,000 KRW. That is a top-of-the-line smartphone, not an average flip phone. My last flip phone cost me about 50,000 KRW.
Either way, your post doesn't hold up. |

So this phone never materialized, huh? Not surprised about that
Too bad, though. It would have been an awesome phone. |
