|
|
after spending a lot of money and time and turning down other jobs, i got an e-mail sent to me this morning stating, that Korean immigration won't accept The Open University.
The Open University is NOT an online degree, it just means you get to tutorials once a week, instead of every day.
naturually i am distraught. i've declined other job offers and spent so much money on getting things ready.
they have my documents as well.
what do i do?
the e-mail was sent to everybody on the team who has bene helping me with the process.
i've been using http://www.teacheslkorea.com/ as my recruiter. |

That's insane. The Open University is a massively respected Uni. |

can an appeal be made? what do i do?
if immigration do not change thier minds, will i get any kind of reimbursement on the money i've spent.
surely the recruitment agency should have done thier homework first.
the school is a GEPIK one and i scanned and e-mailed everything to them first, including my apostilled documents. |

after sending frantic e-mails and explaining what the Open Univeristy is, i just got another e-mail saying that things will be ok.
the agent made a mistake thinking the O.U. was an online university and if i was to not to get my E2 number, i would have been told that 'immigration have rejected my documents'.
so i have been assured that i will get my E2 number in 7-10 working days and my position is secure.
i won't be 100% calm until i have my E2 number e-mailed to me now, after this mornings events. |

Is your OU degree accredited by another on-site university, such as the one you mention visiting once a week? |

Good question!
In my hometown we had a school that gave daily classes on courses based on the Open University in South Africa (UNISA). In fact the entire course content was Unisa. As far as I remember the student graduated with a Unisa degree but with the assisting school's name lurking about the edges.
It was an expensive exercise since the fees had to cover both institutions. But with the both barrels firing it got the dunces through. |

no, the Open University is an establishment in its own right, so does not need accreditation from another university. |

I'm glad it's all been sorted out for and that you will get your job but did you really think you any compensation was coming your way?
Who would have paid it....and why? |

i guess it was wishful thinking, because the recruiters should be aware of which universities are accredited.
here is a bit about the O.U:
The Open University is also one of only two United Kingdom higher education institutions to gain accreditation in the United States of America by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education,[15] an institutional accrediting agency, recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.[16]
In May 2009, David Cameron leader of the United Kingdom political Conservative Party and a regular speaker at the Open University campus in Milton Keynes delivered a keynote speech praising the OU for 'innovation'.[17] As recent as 7th June 2010, and now serving as the newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron once again returned to choose the Open University campus to deliver another keynote speech on the United Kingdom's economy and outline his new government's plans to tackle the economic challenges that lay ahead.[18] |

Sorry but that is not the recruiter's job to check. The majority of recruiters only puts you in touch with employers and nothing more. It is a rare recruiter that does anything more. |

Sounds like the recruiter doesn't know what they are talking about. Open Uni is fine with Korean immigration. |

I applied there for a Masters degree program some years back, I was told they didn't accept Americans. Maybe it's God's way of paying them back! |
