I've been told that only babies cry, and that as an adult, I should never cry in front of other people...only in front of God...I have also been called weak and laughed at for crying in Korea, but actually, I think crying shows that a person has character and a heart...I am happy to say I am not an ice cold robot...but I do think crying is looked down upon here. I even had a Korean girl tell me she "never" cries and was quite proud of it...well, I am a crying girl, and proud of it...at least it shows I have feelings and a heart. So, to cry or not to cry???

I don't know; it seems pretty easy to make Korean teenagers cry, just take away their cellphones. Even the biggest and mightiest boys can be reduced to tears when they have their handeu-pon confiscated for a week.

Many Koreans like sad. That I really appreciate. Many Koreans also like hysterical, that I don't.

I find it a relief that Koreans enjoy sad movies and sad songs. I really enjoy the emotion of 'sad' sometimes. Back home we are so hedonisitic that we generally don't handle sad well.

But hysterical...yeah, pass on that.

Acceptable reasons to cry:

1. Getting nailed in the junk.
2. Death of a loved one.
3. Opening the fridge and seeing theres no beer left, and family mart is a whole 30 second walk away.

Destruction of homebuilt project such as one's car or airplane or some such. I guess that would fall under death of a loved one.

I can't believe that in this day and age I'm seeing such barbaric thinking.

I cry:

-When I hear people making insensitive comments about women
-I cried when I heard that Dog the Bounty Hunter made a racist comment to his son
-When I read Maya Angelou's poetry
-When I watch the sunset sometimes
-During any movie where Robin Williams plays a serious character
-At an abstract art exhibition last week
-When I get my feelings hurt
-When all those mean people in California voted against gay marriage
-When people say mean things about Obama

So if I came up to you and said 'Women are stupid', you'd burst into tears?

For years I had never cried at a movie, and wondered if there was something wrong with me. Then I was happily able to inform my roommate that I had cried when we watched The Hangover. He informed me that didn't count. *pout*
