How can I tell whether or not a Korean recruiter is legit? She seems to be very legit in answering my questions about the various institutional systems in South Korea. She calls me from Korea and is working to help me find a school. This is my first time trying to teach in S. Korea. I applies through Aclipse, but decided to go with a different recruiter because I don't think that Chungdahm is a school for me. The recruiter I am working with now is through ESLcareer.co.kr. Has anybody heard of them? It is a tiny company, but everybody I have spoken with (including an expat teacher) seems very kind, honest, and knowledgeable. |

Hit up every recruiter you can. Some are legit and some aren't. Their goal is to hook you up with a job and get you a commission as soon as possible. Just trust like you would trust a used car salesman. |

After you get a job proposal, do you have to send off your passport to get the Visa? At that point, what are some clear signs that the recuiter wouldn't be legi? |

You have to get the contract from the school you are working at. You sign it and send it in with all of the visa paperwork to your nearest consulate (or you take it there yourself if you want).
Once you're signed and set with your school, the recruiter is done. They get their commission and you move on. |

I recommend match recruits, they were very good with us - everything they told us was accurate, they still follow up with us and send us any new visa info etc. TeachKoreans, Footprints and OK Recruiting are also recommended but you should go with as many as possible to widen your chances of finding something you really want. Don't settle for anything, I have heard a lot about chungdahm - know a few people who work there and they say steer clear - although I personaly have no experience with chungdahm. Also I would definitely not recommend or trust Stephen Cho Edu Orange.
If you do get offered a contract you can post it on here in the sticky and kind experienced posters will review it and give you advice on it.
good luck! |

1) contact as many recruiters as you need to find the job you want with the conditions that you want in the place that you want.
2) do NOT pay the recruiter anything. They are paid by the school.
3) if you find something that you like, ask for the contract.
4) if you like the contract and they like you THEN you begin the visa application process.
4) you send off a copy of your passport (NOT THE ORIGINAL), signed copy of the contract, CRC and degree copy (both with an apostille).
5) a few days later you get your visa confirmation number.
6) you go to the Korean embassy/consulate in your home country to apply for your visa.
7) with your visa firmly attached to your passport you board the plane and head for Korea.
READ THE FAQs. It is all there.
