Hey, I am currently working for GEPIK and attempting to transfer to an SMOE position. EPIK (SMOE) is asking me to obtain a letter of release from my current school to be eligible for the Spring 2011. This is due to my current contract ending 3 days into what would be the new term. When I asked my school if it was possible they said that they could give me a letter of release but it would cancel my severance pay for the year. The previous year I had obtained a letter of release from my hagwon to join GEPIK but still kept my severance. When I asked about this discrepancy my school informed me that because I would be moving from GEPIK to SMOE it would be illegal for them to give me my release and severance. Whereas if I was returning to a private school or company it would not void my severance.

Does anyone know anything about transfering from GEPIK to EPIK/SMOE with using a letter of release? Is it true that it is illegal to for my school to give me my severance if I were to transfer to SMOE after getting a letter of release?
