During my current stay in Korea, I bought some pretty nice guitars. If I were going straight home I'd just check them, but I think I'm going to be taking a detour through Southeast Asia starting next month.

I might sell a few, but there's at least one guitar that I REALLY don't want to sell, because I'd never get proper value for it, and I want to have it when I get back home.

Have any of you ever shipped a large item like this back to the States? Any advice on how to go about doing this and/or how much it would cost?

I think I'd be willing to pay up to about $100 to get it shipped safely. More than that and it might be worth it to try to sell it here and buy the same one back home.

I haven't shipped guitars myself, but a guy from work who just left shipped some pretty expensive ones to the east coast of Canada. He shipped them surface (the cheapest and slowest method). He was a bit worried about them getting there okay, you can't get insurance on things shipped surface, but he said that they arrived in perfect shape, though it did take about a month.

Hope that helps. I'm not sure what he paid.
