I just wanted to let you know that over coffee with my CT she told me that there will be virtually no more public school positions for NETs after 2014 because the younger generation of teachers is considered sufficient to teach the language to the kids.
Just letting you know what she said, told me it was a national education plan for all of korea. Could be right or wrong. The source was my CT. Just wanted to let everyone know, especially the people with long term plans. Probably wouldn't effect the hagwons too much besides flooding the market. |

As my Korean friend (succinctly) put it: "New government, new education policy". |

next time your Handler runs her mouth like that... calmly finish listening to her and smile saying... 'Really??!'
Then you find the biggest piece of Cabbage kimchi you can find, pick it up with your thumb and index finger and BAAAAM!!!! Slap her straight accros the mouth.... That'll make for interesting conversation... hehe.
For better results you guys should be seated at lunch time... so get it talking around that time... they love it... it's good for their skin...
NEEEEXT....

Korea is the only E.Asian country to do this because they're the most xenophobic.
Its a step backward. The racists have won. |

Every year people claim that when a certain date comes that foreign teachers will be forced out of Korea...and all these dates have come and passed. First it was 2000 then 2005, 2007,2010,2012 and now 2014. This too shall pass.
Yes there will probably be a lot less teachers. But I really doubt that all foreign teachers will be phased out. Besides which Korea is notorious for saying one thing and making all these grandiose plans only to reverse direction a few months later and scale them down.
Remember the big flap about only 4 year degrees allowed?
Remember the on again off again on again MJ test?
Remember the big insistence on transcripts by Immigration only to be dropped a couple of years later?
Unless your co-teacher is privy to the workings of the MOE or National Assembly she is blowing smoke. Ask her for a source and if she says "oh I read it somewhere or heard it somewhere" rest assured it's pretty much all B.S.
And no Julius this has nothing to do with racists winning. Stop pushing that old tired agenda.
First of all we don't even know if this is true.
Secondly even if it were true this has been the plan from Day 1. We were told up front that this was only a temp position. This was NEVER designed to be a long-term employment opportunity.
Just like being hired for a temp position back in the West...when you are no longer needed or there is a budget crunch you are let go. Nothing to do with racism. But keep on pushing that old tired 'victim' narrative by all means.
Oh and OP...you meant PUBLIC and not PUBIC yes?

hahaha, just hopped back online and noticed my spelling error, to funny to edit.
I know what you are saying about rumors. Just wanted to let everyone know, not hating. And it would only be public schools.
I think it will be BS based on the fact that Korea will never acept the other Asian countries having more of anything then them, including mannequin native English speakers. |

The OP must be really bored to be posting something that has been discussed to death over the past two weeks. Seriously, posting something that your coworker shared over lunch with you is kind of rediculous. Have you been living in a box for the last few weeks????? |

Does the OP work in Seoul and area? Because the definition of nationwide for many people from there means just Seoul and area. |

i'm not in Seoul. That's why I thought my post was unique. My CT said it is going to be a nationwide strategy. She's a straight up nice woman and i believe her to the effect that she thinks she is telling the truth.
I just wanted to share it with all of you because I know some people make long term plans to stay here. Also if you are trying to climb the salary ladder at the public schools you might need to have a back up plan. |

Yup, basically anything outside of Seoul/Gyeonggi-do is rural, remote and backwards to them. |

I'm in Ulsan public schools, she didn't say it was an ulsan policy, said it was the direction the national MOE was headed (obviously not in those specific words) |

For years I have seen posts about nets in public schools. Are they truely needed? Are the students skipping class and you need nets to catch them? And where do you find such big nets? I have seen the nets they use to catch dragonflies; however, they are much to small to catch students. I am so confused??? |
