Has anyone been approached by their school in the last day or two about resigning in March?

I was approached by my head teacher today and he waved a "memo" (only in Korean in front of me) about November 9th as some date to discuss resigning. This sounds really early and I've received nothing in English. My impression is they were freaking out about something today.

Yup, I was asked to fill out a questionnaire today so they could send it off to the powers that be. It was in English.

This seems way earlier than I thought it would be to talk about resigning - I'd heard late Novermber early Dec.?

Thanks for responding.

I've worked for SMOE private schools for the past few years and most of the administrators/managers hire/resign teachers before the Christmas break. I usually have my contract inked by mid-November.

It does seem a bit early, but it's a really nice feeling to have it all in the bag.

Why do they want you to resign? They don't want you to finish your contract?

No, the opposite. Every sign is positive. I'd hoped for more time to gracefully make it known I would probably not resign. I like the the folks there pretty well but I'm not crazy about staying in Korea. Weird situation I guess.

You want to leave? Then you should be resigning.

This is a battle that just can't seem to be won. "Resign" seems to have lost all meaning in the world of Dave's ESL. We are English teachers, are we not?

RE: definately maybe
Agreed. I hereby affirm I will use quit instead of resign!! Very Happy

RE:interestedinhanguk

Why are you in such a rush about my contract? I haven't been informed of anything at all regarding a due date for contracts.

I was really just having a bit of fun with "re-sign" vs "resign".

I'm sure they're trying to figure out how many new teachers they will be needing. The application process for the spring intake is in full swing. If you want out, let them know... make room for the rest of us! Wink

Isn't this the institution that got everyone to re-sign or resign. Then advertised, then processed, then interviewed, then hired, then had successful applicants apply for entry visas - then fired 100 of them on the day they were flying to Korea?

Haha, yeah same institution.

I have to laugh a bit - a day ago no one from the school on up could tell me anything but now I have to make a year long commitment in the next several days.

By default I'm told of things at the very last minute so asking for a year-long commitment by Nov. 4 is a bit funny.

My co-teacher just asked me to answer yes or no. No questionnaire. I won't assume that just because they asked me means that the school definitely wants me back, tho.
