i got hired by a school and i am leaving at the end of december to work. i have a question for some of you more experienced folk, however.

my girlfriend and i are planning on getting married (eloping, if you will) before i leave and then after a month or two she will come on a dependent visa (f3, i believe?). will that put me on bad terms with my school? i don't expect them to give me bigger housing as we've had plenty of experience living in a studio apartment together. i would like to know if it would be a problem if i wanted her on my insurance.

part of me thinks it shouldn't be an issue since people marry koreans all the time while teaching, but is my situation different? will we be able to both be covered by my health insurance? will the school get pissed off if i ask? i don't want to ruin my relationship with the school, i worked hard and turned down a lot of other positions to get this one. any opinions?

You should be fine. The school might actually like the fact you are married as it will make you look more responsible. I mean, I can't say for sure, but I haven't had problems. Though, I came married and was up front throughout the entire process (both times) about my husband accompanying me.

I don't know about the insurance thing, I do know that my husband who has been slacking on getting his new F3 went to the doctor last month and it was cheap as always with just his Visitor's stamp.

It would be fair to give the school a heads-up.
