I'm not sure, but I don't think most people have heard back yet. My recruiter said you probably won't hear back until around Christmas. |

I got the tracking number for my NOA / contract January 19 2009, received it a few days later.
I first contacted the recruiter in October 2009, passed the interview late October, documents were in Korea by November 9.
I was also told contract by Christmas, then it'll be sent in one more week....one more week...
You'll get it eventually. Don't look at flight prices until you do, it will kill you how much they keep rising whilst the contract takes its time. |

Unbelievable! Mid-Late January!? That's terrible. I thought they e-mail you your NoA so you can at least get the visa ahead of time (around mid-December) |

Since the Korean public school year begins in March...why is Mid-Late January so terrible? That leaves you more than a month to get ready. |

The selfish reason is, because I still want to travel and see some more countries in Europe and I can't really make a plan to do that if I have to sit around waiting for the contract to come.
However, if I want to make myself sound less selfish there are a few other points, lol. For starters, the earlier I book, the cheaper the flight. And uhhh, I am going under the assumption that we have to be in Korea by mid February. Not to mention if any of my paperwork is incomplete/not done right, I'd be left scrambling with a month to go. I guess I could try thinking of other things but. It would be nice if they didn't have us waiting around for so long. |

I wouldn't gaurantee anything until you are here.
I had all the details in thier hands and was put off twice. I had so many problems because of thier sudden changes and they would just tell me that they bumped me another month.
It was April before they said they could give me a job even though they had told me in Feb they had a set job for me starting in March. They just kept on changing thier positions when it came close to the date they originally said I need to be in Korea.
It was only when I was in Korea that I was certain I had the job. It seems with this many applicants they offer jobs that may not exist or they may bump you from a job if they find a better applicant etc.
So just be wary of this, dont put all your eggs into one basket especially now. Have a plan B even if they are now telling you they have a job.
Its not guaranteed until you are here working and they don't feel bad about ruining your life with thier changes.
If they even think about it. |

Well unless you are planning to be there a long time (most people seem to do 1-2 years) I wouldn't be selling my car and most definitely not my house. It's nice to have a place to go to when you leave the airport.
30 days notice is standard for many jobs as well.
Ordering plane tickets takes a few minutes.
Orientation is not absolutely necessary before starting...I didn't attend one until 2 months into the job.
The apartment lease thing is a valid objection...but it can be worked out if the landlord is at all a reasonable type. Plus there are ways to legally terminate a lease such as if any of the building codes are not up to date.
Most people coming over here probably didn't live in a new luxurious apartment complex beforehand. |

GEPIK
Though I used to be in EPIK before. Its still difficult to percieve all the possibilities though as this is Korea.
Last minute changes, re-changing of contracts, false options, etc they are just par for the course at times.
Though there has never been this many applicants or teachers in Korea during my previous times here and so who can say what will happen.
I did seriously wonder considering all the changes that happened if I would arrive like the Smoe teachers and find myself without a job after arriving.
When I arrived and there was no one waiting there for me, (though was told there would be) it did cross my mind for a sec.
It turned out it was a taxi driver they sent and he was late. |

ouch... this is certainly bad to hear. i didn't think EPIK was like this. Is this the norm? I was under the impression that EPIK was much more stable and when you had a job with them you had a job. |

you have alot of if's in there. No one is complaining here, but you make it seem like one can just up and leave within 4 weeks to travel across the world like its nothing.
If Im going over a place for a year, unless everything is fully paid for, there is no way I would keep my house or my car.
If you cant see the reason why some people need more time, then I dont know what to tell you. I hope EPIK dosent think every applicant is a person living in their parents house with no bills or responsibilities. All Im saying is that a yes or a no in 2 months advance would be nice. At least I can mov on instead of just waiting until the last minute. |
