It was so refreshing to see the kiddos dressed in scary costumes, unlike the American kids that dress like frickin Barney and Cinderella. The kids really got into it and i think Halloween will catch on like wildfire in the coming years.
Didn't it bring you back to more nostalgic times when you were a kid in the 80's early 90's going to Halloween dressed as scary ghosts and goblins? That's what Halloween is supposed to be about! I hope the Korean kids continue to dress up the right way for years to come.

I'm pretty sure if Cinderella and Barney costumes were available, the vast majority of Koreans kids would have worn those.

Fact is the selection of Halloween costumes is not abundant here (naturally since it isn't a Korean thing)

I can honestly say I didn't see ANY kids dressed up for Halloween, but then again I'm not a teacher and surrounded by them all day long. I cant say anything I saw in Korea was reminiscent of back home in my youth.

It's cool for them to experience another culture. However I suspect that if the day were not associated with English speaking nations, it wouldn't be anything at all. The only kids dressing up for Halloween are those who are in hagwons or otherwise doing English study and it is promoted as an "English" holiday.

^^^Yeah... where do you guys live?

Everyone in my school didn't even know when Hallowe'en was... I sort of didn't address the issue because then I would be expected to give them stuff, which I hate.

Last year, after days of lining the kids up and making them practice, my hagwon dressed all the kindies up as little pumkins. Then, we took them to their apartment complex where their mothers were lined up with baskets of candy. The children sang a song. Moms took pictures, and then after all of that, they were finally allowed to collect their candy.

Then, in the afternoon we threw a huge party for the older students. I led that game where you pass around the "eyeballs" and such.

At the end of the day, I was too tired to go to any parties or anything, and this year I am thankful to be at a high school where nothing was required. I still didn't party. It's more fun at home.

These guys work in hagwons. You won't see anyone dressed up in a school, at least at the schools I've worked at.

I had a mask and/or cape but nothing reaching Saturday Itaewon proportions.

Of 8 girls--- 7 were princesses and one was a fairy. Of 6 boys, I had 2 police officers, 3 batmen and 1 spiderman. We also had pinatas and "candy rain" where you throw candy at the kids and they catch it/pick it up off the floor. Then we had a relay race. There was no spaghetti brains or slimey eyeballs. No bobbing for apples as management thought the kids might cry from being asked to put their heads in water (go figure). It was fun, but it wasn't halloween! I guess I should mention I work with kinders so maybe they're not old enough to get into the "scary" stuff. I did feel like I was in Disneyland!
