Hi, the search function isn't working for me. This is an easy question though.
I'm planning to go to Japan for my winter vacation in January to stay with some friends. My question is:Do I need to book a hotel?
I heard that when visiting Japan you need to have booked a hotel in advance... is this true?
Thanks in advance! |

I've never heard that specifically about Japan, but it's not a bad idea to book in advance, I don't think.
I think it depends on what kind of traveler you are. I like to have everything booked in advance, so I don't waste time during my vacation on hotel websites and on the phone trying to make a booking. Others prefer the flexibility of only having the first night or two booked, so they can make changes on the fly.
The one thing I have heard, especially if you're landing at Narita Int'l Airport, is if you're landing at night, have your hotel booked for that night. Otherwise, you may have an unpleasant first night in Japan... |

Always good to have a place booked for your first night. That said, it really isn't that tough to do. Where ya going first and when? Winter is not so tourist packed, so there will probably be a good number of places available, and at non-ripoff prices... |
