I'm going to be teaching 6 blind middle school students, 2 boys and 4 girls. Their English seems about the same as most MS students in Korea...and better than some of my uni students.

The thing is, I don't know what to do with them. I'm also teaching elementary students and they're great, but I've never been able to get a handle on what MS students are interested in. They're using the same textbook that regular MS students use (in Braille), but I'd like to expand their horizons.

So, in your MS, what do your kids like to talk about? Who are their "heroes"? Any suggestions will be appreciated!!

Talking about music, singers and bands is always a big hit with my MS boys (I teach all boys). They like a lot of K-bands, and western music too. Rap and pop seem to be the most commonly liked styles.

My students like all K-Pop, Justin Beiber, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, and especially Lady Gaga.

The boys like soccer, wrestling with each other, destroying things, video games (star craft) their cell phones and their girlfriends.

The girls like gossiping, watching the boys play soccer, their cell phones Maple Story (some online game) and their boyfriends.

They all seem to be really into drawing and art. Especially clay, I catch them playing with it under their desks all the time.
