I've been contemplating going to a spa or a massage parlor but that would cost a lot of money. Can you recommend any great ways to relax that's cheap or even free?

How do you relax with all the stress you deal with on a regular basis?

Go for a long brisk walk. An hour or two before bed does wonders. Bring music if you want. Get active. Stress buster!

Recsy babe, are you a normally anxious and hyper character? If you are, it's best to get a bit of Loranzapam(sp?) or valium and take .05 mg pill at night. You'll sleep well and deep and you'll wake up relaxed. Don't do it every day for God's sake, you'll get addicted to that stuff, = not good.

no drugs!

the non-pharmacological approach is often best. This means no pot either.

I'm guessing you are in or near Seoul. I find it extremely stressful to go to Seoul due to the masses of people making it a challenge just to walk and go places due to there being way too many people. Stay away from large crowds of people as much as possible by limiting your subway use if feeling a bit wore out on it. Saturdays are just ridiculously hectic with millions of people going out on foot every where in the city.

If in an over crowded city, you can go enjoy a spa for as little as 12,000 won such as Dragon Hill jimjilbang at Yongsan station. It's basically a shower room with hot and cold pools attached, but massage will set you back something over 100,000. Since it's 24 hours, crashing on the floors in common areas is allowed and by 4am of a Saturday morning, it's unfortunately elbow to elbow with soju and bad breath being the primary smell.

Your apartment is your very own tiny little personal space that is your private place to relax. A hill or mountain trail is a place to for a walk without crazy pedestrian traffic such as motorbikes keeping you on red alert as you always fight the crowds that just always walk into you head on, but you will still see people.

You can block out the noise and annoying sounding people with an IPOD or other music player. One would think you need to hear traffic to avoid collision, but fact is, you can't really hear much in a city environment due to all the noise.

While we wouldn't typically consciously think about it and may not even know, the modern day world is very stressful. Avoid people and traffic as much as possible. Spend Sundays in.

I got it. Go to the mountain area (in Seoul) of Seongbuk gu. Find the area where all the embassy homes and very expensive walled community. There's a Buddhist temple up there that is extremely quiet. There are meditation rooms as well. Spend some time there, you'll feel better. Do you know how to chant and all that stuff? Very Happy

Have you tried quiet sitting? It resembles meditation in form, but instead of focusing on anything especially spiritual or mysterious, you simply let your thoughts drift and pay attention to how they drift and what they tend to drift to. It's relaxing, can aid in self-improvement, it's free, and doesn't involve anything like chanting or belief in anything supernatural.

Reading is also a nice way to relax, and there's a real abundance of free literature available on the internet.

Exercise! I am a very calm and laidback person, I can't remember the last time I felt stressed out. And I also love sports and physical fitness, maybe the two are related.

I'm sitting down right now comfortably reading things on the internet yet I find myself excited or saddened by what I read, which I do not find relaxing but draining.

With the whole meditation thing. It does sound a lot like sensory deprivation. I've tried laying down and thinking about nothing but it leads to thinking and then to falling unconscious.

I think my most fondest memories of relaxing seem to involve human touch:

1) getting a shave at a old-fashioned barber
2) getting a haircut and head massage (yup, I love the barbers)
3) back rub

*sigh*

Red wine. Other alcohol just doesn't give that same wrapped in cotton feeling, and definitely not after only half a glass.

I spend an obscure amount of time staring blankly into the sky.

Everything else disappears but my thoughts and the sky and the sound of my ears ringing from the years of stupidly loud rock music.
