Hey ppl... I'm thinking about taking up a contract in Jeju Do.... what with the summer coming on and all...
Has anyone worked there? What's it like? I'm after some general information about living there long-term. Cost of living? Social life? General atmosphere of the place?
Any advice, suggestions, criticisms?
Cheers

D

I see that Daum Communications (the company that made Hanmail) is moving their head office down there. Jeju has recently given a lot of tax incentives to try to bring in big companies, and when Daum finishes moving down there they will apparently count for 8% of the Jejuan (?) economy.

I could never understand how people live there. Any other city in Korea and you're never more then an hour or two on the bus or train to a big city.

Jeju-do? You have to fly if you want to escape for a day or the weekend. No quick bus ride to Seoul or Busan for the day... no thanks.

Yeah, Island fever will bite you in the ass sooner or later. You will be bored out of your mind. You will probably enjoy the company of a deserted island rather than the crowded, Korea Jeju. Also, their proclamations of it being the "Hawaii of Korea" are a complete joke. I've been to Hawaii and Jeju doesn't even come close. Of course, a Korean came up with the slogan so it must be true. Give Jeju a pass. You will get bored and the western amenities are a bit scarce.
