Hi
We are a married couple from England & ireland. We recently applied for the EPIK programme, and were absolutely devasted when we were declined. We still really want to teach English in Korea, but we were told by the recruitment agency that hagwon will only consider North American females. Can anyone tell me if there is any truth in this.
I noticed that a lot of recruitment agencies advertise positions in public schools. I thought the only way to get a public school position was via the national EPIK application process. Are these legitimate positions?
If anyone has any advice to offer, I'd really love to hear it.
Thanks!!!! |

You are applying at the worst time ever in Korean esl history.
In 2009 there began to be more applicants than jobs, and now because of the recession its running about 50 applicants per job.
Koreans have always preferred american english, so other nationalities are not getting much of a look in. They also believe that blonde hair and inexperience confer amazing teaching ability.
I do however see some jobs particularly aimed at couples, so good luck. |
