I'm headed to Tokyo for four days late-December through New Year. I'm staying with a friend so the accommodation is taken care of.
Anyone with Tokyo experience on how much won I'd be looking at dropping..roughly? I'll be seeing a good mate so there'll be a fair amount of boozing involved.

You can easily breeze through US$1000 in 4 nights (not including accommodation) if you are doing some serious "socializing" and hitting the hot-spots.

yup, i agree.
$1000 not the accomodation included. just for food, drinks and transportation.
sight seeing included, but stuff like disney world and disney sea excluded.

for accomodation you will have to calculate another $70 - $150 per night, if you are opting for a motel/mid-class hotel (prices also depend on the area you wanna stay).
theres cheaper options, e.g. bullet motels. i think a night there could be as low as $20 - $40 a night. however, when booking it you should pay attention to their gender rules. most bullet motels ive heard of have a strict 'only male guests' policy. however, some also are mixed.
it takes some research.

Seriously, what were you guys doing that cost you $1000 in four days? From my travel experience, including Kyoto and Osaka, there's no city in the world that you can't get away with spending 1/4th of that if you just budget a little...

I think my daily expenditures in Japan, including accommodation, was about $100 per day. And that was staying in a capsule hotel, eating good food, and seeing the sights...

Mind you that was in Osaka and Kyoto a few years back... maybe they serve gold flakes with your ramen now...

At the INCHEON airport.

Do NOT take won to Japan. They are virtually worthless there and almost impossible to exchange.

Buy YEN or Dollars here BEFORE you go.
