I've no definite plans to visit, but hypothetically, if I were to enter a North Korean embassy, is it possible for them to detain me against my will?
The reason I ask is because I read a story of a Chinese-Canadian visiting China during the Cultural Revolution, who was yelled at for visiting the Soviet embassy because, the Chinese official claimed, she could've been kidnapped. Nowadays, it doesn't seem likely for a Russian embassy to kidnap anyone, but North Korea does have a government that likes to do kidnap people sometimes. |

Going to Beijing sometime soon? You won't find many NORK embassies on the planet.
Unless you were some high-profile spy or much wanted terrorist (by their standards) I doubt they would show much interest in you.
Historically, most of their kidnappings have been done in Japan in the stealth of night and not from people going to one of their embassies.

Or if you were an internationally renowned filmmaker. |

I understand there's on in Cambodia, which I'm thinking of going to (and made another thread in this forum about). The reason I ask is becuase when I travel I'm a curious person, but I try to be careful not to let my curiosity get me into trouble. If I went into the North Korean embassy, asked for brochures or inquired about visas, speaking Korean, there's a possibility that it could get me into trouble.
Actually I just remembered a decades-old story I read in a book about a South Korean guy in China who accidentally went to the North Korean embassy, who decided to keep him. You're probably right in that they'd either entertain my nosing around or tell me to go away, but... |

What makes you think you could be able to walk in to begin with? Not like every embassy has open doors to anyone and everyone. |
