Curious what your experience was/where you stayed.
Any information is appreciated. |

I really enjoyed the trip. Good public transport. Easy to get around (though things go better if you speak a little Korean).
One word: be sure to give yourself some flex time getting to the island and the departure as ferries are canceled frequently.
If you can handle low budget rooms stay away from the pricey "hotels" and go for the low cost minbak rooms.
Good eats galore. Stay away from the local beef. It's expensive and horrid.
Be sure to take the walking trail that cuts behind the ferry terminal. The Lonely Planet book has a few basics that will serve you well on this worthwhile destination.
Good trip. |

I just went to Ulleungdo last weekend and had a fantastic time. I went to go hiking so I just saw the northeast part of the island but it was very nice. I climbed Seonginbong from Dodong-ri (the main town) and then descended to Naribunji in the north. The next day I slowly made my way back along the coast and then through the NaeSuJeon trail to Dodong-ri.
One word of advice, depending on what time of year you're going, Saturday nights can be crazy busy at hotels, so if you go during the holidays or during the fall when leaves are changing colour try and get a hotel lined up early. If you're there during a busy time, I'd also recommend going to the Tourist Info Centre right at the port in Dodong-ri. They were fantastic in helping me find a place late on Saturday afternoon. The woman must have called 15 to 20 places for me before finding one that wasn't completely full.
From Mukho port in Donghae the ferry takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, and apparently can get quite rough. I was lucky, but I wouldn't want to make that trip if the wind picked up too much. |

That reminds me. On the return trip to Pohang, the sea was rough and more than half of the passengers were barfing.
There were no tickets for seats so I had to go to the floor room, basically a place where everyone crashes on the floor. The seas were so rough, I was sliding to and fro on the floor.
Also, the floor area of the ferry is where you'll find the party crowd. Loud groups of soju swilling partiers who don't give a damn about what they say and how loud they say it. |
