I haven't been able to find real ramen here. Only the instant kind. WAY TOO SALTY! This was one of my favorite foods in Japan. Does anyone know any good ramen restaurants in or around Seoul? |

a few really good ones in Heywha around SKKU and up some of the side streets. I have found the package ramen here to be far superior to the crap in the US so I try not to care if its as authentic to Japanese stuff |

I'm not sure how 'authentic' it is, never having been to Japan and trying it there. There's a nice Japanese ramen restaurant in Yongsan though. I think it's in the IPark Mall. It's something connected to the subway station and on one of the upper floors anyway. |

There are quite a few in Myeongdong for the Japanese tourists. I went to one that was pretty good, I think it was called Kenzo Ramen? |

There's a good one in myeongdong, in fact a few, that cater to the japanese tourists. I could describe where it is but you'll never find it.
Edit: I hate it when I don't read all the post before posting, so yeah as the above poster said.
In terms of the pork stock and home made noodles it was close in quality to the one I had in Japan, but definitely not quite up there with it. Generally good doncatsu there too. |

I'll have to start hunting around. I really miss it, and even bad "authentic" ramen would be better than this instant garbage. |

You would think so, but it's not true. The Kenzo Ramen in Jamsil Lotteworld is undoubtedly worse than Korean instant ramen.
That said, the Japanese ramen probably is better, but it's also just different. Koreans prefer Korean-style ramen.
As for good Japanese ramen places, try walking around Hongdae. There's a few good places there. |

I used to live in Japan and had the ramen (proper Japanese style ramen) cravings before....yes there are tons of ramen places here but the taste is very plain in comparison (unsurprisingly). Hakoya is pretty bad IMO as well as many others.....Kenzo even worse. Didn`t think much of the one in Myongdong either that people on here have mentioned.
I can however recommend 2 places that are pretty good/close to good authentic Japanese ramen. Well...closer than the other crappy ones you get here.
1. Sanchome in Hongdae

They had/have a Japanese owner there (not sure if they changed ownership since last year)....but pretty good nontheless. A few Japanese (students I think) work there too whenever I went. I recommend #1. A Japanese student told me about this place.
2. Chichiboo (Gangnam/Sinnonhyun) - opposite side of Kyobo building. I read there might be a branch in Hongdae that opened up recently too.

No one should be discussing ramien until they've watched that movie.
But what constitutes "real" ramien? Based on whose standards? |

The first line of your post contains the answer to the second line. |

there are several places in hongdae. Gassra, a donkatsu chain has good japanese ramen. there's a gassra in hongdae, myeongdong(2), and several other places i've not been to. It's not as porky as the other japanese ramen places i've been to though, if that's what you prefer. i think korean ramen is better. |
