Any good places to buy some? Itewan? Somewhere nearby? I'm not fat but XL or XXL would do the trick.

Out of all the size issues I encountered in Korea.....this was not one of them.

Just go for the largest size and you'll be good unless your really tall/big/fat.

The largest size I can find is 110 and that is a little tight on me.

It's probably very hard to find underwear that's the size of a foreign country (waegook). The word for foreigner is waegookin.

XL American or XL Korean?

My mom is a medium in the States but she is a XXL or XXXL here (can't remember which, whatever was the biggest size the store had).

American XL underwear is covered by 110. You can get it at some independent shops, like BYC. Above that, I don't think you can just find it anywhere. Check Gmarket.

Waegook (외국) can also just mean "foreign", no?

only when it's used with 의 as an adjective, or used as part of a larger word (like 외국 무역 - Foreign trade). All alone it generally means foreign country/land. Here it's attached to underwear, so it could be understood to be an adjective, but then we'd be really over analyzing a thread title.

Not only size, we need some cotton whites such as the Fruit of the Loom; not these panties lacking rump room. I found white cotton Fruit of the Loom on Gmarket, but they are for boys and cost 44,000 won for 3 pairs. A small man with a 28" or smaller waist could probably use them. I was surprised to find a cheap Walmart pack of 3 go for $40. Back home the very same pack of 3 boys Fruit of the Loom would cost $3.50 with a pack of 3 men's costing $6.

I seen some Western market Kalvin Klien in Namdaemoon near the military wear where a 3 pack is 24,000 won. I think I'm headed back for some as that's the only briefs I've seen that make any sense to me. I didn't buy, because I thought the price was high and I didn't like the lady's attitude. Well, she knew my conundrum without me telling about it and now I'm thinking the price isn't high.

You guys must really be some fat arses if the underwear doesn't fit.

When I came to Korea, I was topping about 230lbs and the underwear here still fit. I'm around 185lbs now and my selection is endless.

Guys sizes go up a lot, but girl sizes are very small. Trust me, NO ONE has ever said my mom was fat. People always worry that she's too thin, but she BARELY fit into clothes here. The guys clothes might be different, especially since a lot of Korean guys are obese now, but the girls clothes are made for people with very thin frames. Growing up on a milk diet back home does not lend itself to small frames. It has nothing to do with how fat you are, but of course, if you have a small frame and are fat, you won't fit them either.

Side note, I ask my students things about our topics. If we are talking about foods, I ask them how much milk do you drink everyday. Most boys (elementary and middle school students) drink at least 3 cups a day, and most of my female students only drink 1 cup or no milk at all.

If "aircon" can mean "air conditioner" then "waygook" can mean"foreigner". "Waygook" is now an English word (borrowed from Korean) to mean a foreigner.

Haha, I doubt very seriously it's the milk. I work at a kindy and kids guzzle milk all day long. I've worked at an elementary school as well and they drink milk all day long there too. Let's not forget that yogurt is one of the most common snacks here as well. And they drink the sugary yogurt with added flavoring in it.

But nice try.

It does have to do with what they and we grow up eating. As I mentioned above, I was carrying around an extra 50lbs at least when I got here. I didn't understand how terrible I was eating back home until I started eating better in Korea.

What has been considered "normal" weight back home for the last few decades is obese everywhere else in the world. This is typical American excess. I don't know you, but I don't want to pass judgement on you. But I can quote with confidence, every single western girl I've seen in this country is, well, for lack of a more delicate word.. fat. Maybe it's just because they are standing next to thin Korean girls, but I swear, the way they spread in the middle appears odd and unusual to me now.

Guys are about 50/50. Half are those ectomorphic type guys that struggle with being bean poles their whole lives. The other half are lard arses. And yes, I was one of those guys, until I got tired of being "just another fat American" and got off my rump and made a change. It's been two years in the making and I'm just shy of dropping that extra 50lbs. I could still probably stand to lose another 10lbs, but at least the worst is over.

I didn't want this to get into a fat rant. I'm just constantly disappointed at the waist lines I see on my fellow waygooks. We're only killing ourselves faster and consistently perpetrating a stereotype that the rest of the world enjoys a good laugh over.

Shape up people.
