So I just invested in an Xbox 360 from my local electronics emporium...

I got two games with it: GTA IV and Winning Eleven 2011.

WE2011 is annoying the hell out of me as it's in Korean and after browsing the menus it appears there's no way to change the language (I can't read Korean).

Do most games bought in Korea have no English language option? Seems strange as I remember games back in the stone age of gaming where you had the choice of like 7 different languages. Seems like a massive oversight if the option isn't there.

A Korean Xbox 360? Bad choice as it'll be region locked and you'll be restricted to korean versions of the games.

A NA or European Xbox 360 or a PS3 (PS3's have no region limitations on games) would have been a better choice.

Don't panic. Most games aren't region-locked, but sports titles tend to be. You can buy English games from play-asia. I think you can get some in Yongsan, but I've never been.

By and large, Korean bought games are in English. For the few problem games that aren't, import form playasia. Region locked games are few and far between. Here's a list of games I have found to be problems here:

Call of Duty 3 English spoken / Korean menus

Call of Duty: World at War English spoken / Korean menus

007 Quantum of Solace English Spoken / Korean menus

Halo 3 Korean language only (maybe English menus??)

Halo ODST Korean language only (maybe English menus??)

Halo Reach Korean language only (maybe English menus??)

Assassins Creed Korean language only

Assassins Creed 2 Spoken English / Korean Menus

Bioshock 2 Online multiplayer limited to domestic Korean release (meaning theres only about 200 people to play against.)

I don't play sports games, but my friend says FIFA is in Korean.

thanks for the replies.

play-asia seems like a great website!

so am I right in thinking that a Korean Xbox is NTSC-J?

if that's the case, then would I also be right in thinking that this game:

http://www.play-asia.com/World_Soccer_Winning_Eleven_2011/paOS-13-71-dw-49-en-70-3y4o.html

would come in English and also be compatible with my console?

It does have this info at the bottom:

Release Date Oct 20, 2010
Language English
Subtitles English & Chinese
Genre Sports
Version Asia

So I guess it looks promising. What do you guys think... should I go trade this copy in for something else and buy the hong kong version from play asia?

Being a die-hard hockey fan (I've played the NHL series from EA since it first launched in 1990) I was SORELY disappointed to learn they were no longer not only selling the NHL series in Asia but region LOCKED it so even if I wanted to spend my money to import it I couldn't as it wouldn't work on my Korean Xbox 360. At that time I had about 30 games and was happy but when I found out I couldn't play NHL anymore I sold the whole thing and managed to get a U.S. xbox through a friend who had a boyfriend on Yongsan army base. I don't regret the decision and have been happy ever since.

If you're not a hockey fan than you should be fine with most games. I have a reliable guy at Yongsan who lets me know if the game is region free and in English.

It's there. You'll see it under the "further info" section...

And, because NTSC-J is checked, yes, it'll work on a Korean 360.

If you change your language preference to English in your console settings, it should change the game menus to English. All of the voice acting is still in Korean, but the cut scenes are sub-titled.

Kardisa - can you personally confirm that? I KNOW Halo 3 had only Korean voices in Campaign. i started importing after that. It would be nice if REACH was readily available here. I imported mine.
