I've got about 3 weeks left on my contract, and I've decided to mix things up a bit and teach some songs. I'll probably just bring my guitar to class and try to teach the kids to sing along.
I'd really prefer to avoid the typical kindy-level ESL songs. I'd like to use classic rock or classic pop songs if possible. I teach middle school, btw.
Some ideas I've had so far:
Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy
Bob Marley - Three Little Birds
Some song by The Beatles. Can't decide on which song would be best.
Any ideas?
I'll probably do a Christmas song for my last week. |

Hey Jude or Let it Be are the all time Korean favorites.
It's always a good activity to pick a slower song where the lyrics are somewhat understandable. I usually print them out with some blanks in on the more obvious words and the students follow along and fill in the blanks while listening.
It's also good if you know how to play guitar. A class singalong of some sort. |

"If I Had a Million Dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies. Kids love it, and you could teach them the 2nd conditional! |

'Beautiful Sunday' by Daniel Boone went over well with my students. I did it in a public school with a mixed level class, and they kept asking me every week if we could sing it. They were elementary students, but it's probably the ultimate classic pop song with pretty easy lyrics.
They might not get the verses, but they always nail the chorus. |

"My Love" is an old perennial, easy to play too. "I have a Dream" always does well and as a previous poster says "Hey Jude".
Do yourself a favor, use a c/d player and resist the temptation to accompany with guitar. Unless you play exceptionally well. |
