For GEPIK teachers, are you required to take a 15 hour online course? My school is requiring this in the next two weeks.
Thanks,

haha...it's a straightforward, albeit slightly dry, series of online lessons/quizzes on korean culture/teaching methods. Carl Kwan conducts them. Seems like an okay guy but you get tired of hearing his voice.

My school, at least, told me I had to do it. Which I did. I'm contracted to them through GEPIK...and I know some of my other NETs from GEPIK have/are doing it too.

It's easy and a little dry, like the previous poster said. I watched it and studied at the same time and still aced every "quiz" at the end of each chapter.

Yeah, Carl's a pleasant guy. It makes me giggle when he mimes proper Korean manners, though, like when he grabs his tit when he demonstrates how to politely pass something to someone. Laughing There's something about this kind of manners training that brings out my perverse and immature side.

Ah, so there's quizzes at the end of each chapter? I didn't notice. I was wondering why my progress was 0%.

My school never said a word about me going to the re-orientation thing and I haven't heard a peep about this either. Hope it stays that way.

My co-teacher just told me about this today. It's through EBS and its costs 60,000W (I believe your school should be paying for it).

Unfortunately, I dont think you can log into the website yet because registration doesnt begin (again?) until Monday (11/15).

The course has to be completed by December 15th.

The website is http://ettc.ecampus-global.com . This training is under the course section.

It looks like there are 15 sections.

I cant really tell you much more because the document my co-worker gave me was written completly in Korean. Rolling Eyes

My co-teacher gave me the paper for this course as well, but said it was optional and if I were to take it the school would pay for it. (Hopefully your schools are doing the same!!)

I figured it out now Smile

The school pays for it. I was told I have to do it.

The course seems aimed at new hirees who haven't started working yet. At least the host is pleasant, and always wears a cool sweater. If you have been working in Gepik for a while, you probably don't have to pay close attention to ace the quiz at the end...

I was about to write the same thing. I looked over the topics of the dozen or so lectures and thought they'd be really dry, and stuff I already knew so took a pass. My coteacher didn't seem too upset about it.

It's very easy and anyone who's been in a public school job for more than 1-2 months should have no problems with it. For some reason most seem to be getting 90's on the Final so maybe one of the questions is worded incorrectly? I don't know. It would be very helpful for newbies, but there are some overly positive generalizations made in the presentations that could also set some newbies up for failure.

Does this count as "training" hours?

I've been here two years, married to a Korea and have a MA in Elementary Ed with a US teaching certification. I HAD to do this training.

The good news. The guy wears hilarious sweaters. You can skip to the ends of the videos so it looks like you watched the whole thing if you aren't into it. The test is really easy.

Other good news: For new teachers, they can actually learn quite a few things by watching it. So I would recommend that they actually spend the time.

I got some good powerpoint resources out of it and learned a bit about the design of the Korean education system. There probably isn't much in there for anyone who has been here over 4 or 5 months.
