Does anyone have any experience with using Avenues, published by Hampton Brown? How about High Point or Inside, also by Hampton Brown? They seem to have been adopted as ESL textbooks many places in the US, but I can not get my hands on a physical copy here, and I must say the publisher's website is less than helpful for someone who wants to page through and see what is actually inside...so anyone that knows or has used any of these texts, please let me know your opinions -- either in the thread, or send me a PM if you prefer.
I'm looking to judge the suitability for adoption as a main text for a levelled, year-long program at an academically-focused hakwon. I'll be going to the Kyobo bookstore in Seoul in a couple of days to see if they have any on-hand for me to actually leaf through, but I am not sure they even carry it (there were some listings for it on their website, but there was no picture of the book, and the pricing seemed way way way too high for the text I think I am looking for...plus, my Korean is not so hot, so it may have been telling me something I ought to have understood...).
Anyway, if you have used any of these books, please let me know what you thought of them, as well as where you were able to get them. Thank you for your time.
Alternately, if you have a textbook series you would strongly recommend, I would like to hear from you, but the school is looking for something less-commonly used in Korea (We are giving up on the Scott Foresman ESL series). |
