I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but a new foreign teacher from America has started his job at my school and he received his first E-2 Visa in Korea. He was living with his wife who already teaches at my school (E-2) and was on some special spouses visa. Well he decided that he wanted to teach after 6 months of living here. Apparently after around April 26th, Korean law has changed to where you are able to apply for an E-2 Visa in Korea ! I don't know about the changes regarding renewals, but this is a major step forward and can be quite convenient for many!

Apply without leaving the country, or apply and do a visa run? You've always been able to apply to do a visa run. |

No visa run necessary. The new teacher has been living here for 6 months and is receiving his first E-2 Visa in Korea without leaving. No trip to America or Japan. |

Change of status from an F1 or F3 to a work visa has always been possible.
