|
|
Hi, I have a single entry visa for 1 year, but I want to go somewhere for winter break so I need to switch it to a multiple entry visa. I heard you can do it online, but I don't know where. My stupid school put me down for a single entry visa and Americans are supposed to get a multiple entry so it really annoys me that I have to do this in the first place, but anyways. Thanks if you can direct me to the website. |

click the button on the top left side of the page under E-application that says "Re-entry (Single, Multiple)".
But for convenience, you can get a re-entry permit at the airport. It takes about 15-30 minutes prior to your check-in at the baggage counter and costs 30k won. Easier, no chance of a screw-up and you get the stamp in your passport instead of the piece of paper (that you print out) to lose.

thanks! one question. is the re-entry permit you can get at the airport only for that time or can it be used for future trips? |

At the airport, you get switched over to a multiple-entry visa. Just like the one you wanted originally. You're all set for future trips. |

Not necessary after December 15.

The Korea Immigration Service released a revised regulation yesterday covering registered foreigners who have lived in Korea for more than 91 days on a single-entry visa. Under the new rules, these foreigners will not need approval from the immigration office if they visit another country and re-enter Korea within their authorized period of stay. The new regulation will be effective Dec. 15. |

Just cause you read it in the paper does not make it a reality yet.
Pit-stop at the airport immi-office to be save. That 15 minutes may save you the head-ache of requiring a new visa (with all the attendant hassles and costs) after you return from your vacation.

The rule change sounds good but I don't trust it. I'm leaving the country in December for 3 weeks and I will be damned sure to ask for the 30k Won re-entry permit at the airport before I leave new rule or not. I don't want any snafus with an immigration controller that isn't up to date when I come back. |

So if I leave Korea before Dec. 15 with the intention of coming back sometime after Dec. 15, do I have to pay the fee still? Or will it be waived because I'll be returning after the beginning of the new regulations date? |

When you leave your visa will be canceled on departure unless you have a valid re-entry permit.

Ok Now I'm confused.
I'm on a Single Entry visa. the visa is good until next summer.
I'm wondering if I should pay the Multiple Entry fee.
My trip would be for about 2-3 weeks to my homeland and back to Korea..
I'm thinking of leaving a little before Dec. 15 and coming back like January 3 or 4.
So what effect would the new regulations have then?
Thanks for your help in advance. |

If you depart BEFORE Dec. 15 and do NOT have a re-entry permit THEN your visa WILL be canceled. (it does NOT MATTER when you are returning - it is the act of departure that cancels the visa).
Get a single use re-entry permit at the airport immigration office before you fly (30k won).

You don't have to pay 30,000 anymore. It's free. It started last Thursday. They gave me the single entry visa sticker on my passport, but said from now on the rules changed and I don't have to pay. Awesome |

I'm not sure why they would cancel my visa? If anything they would just make me buy a re-entry permit before I leave.
Actually last weekend that happened to me too lakeshow. They gave me a re-entry sticker. I thought it was going to start Dec. 15 though |
