|
|
I'm going to Thailand for the first time around the end of January for my winter vacation, and for 2-3 days of this trip I'm hoping to visit Phi Phi island.
I know I'm going during high season, and to make matters worse, it will be at least a couple of weeks before I can book anything because my school still hasn't planned its winter camp yet.
Anyway, I'm not finding much information around the internet about hostels on Phi Phi. I haven't been able to find a travel buddy, so I'm looking for a place where I can meet people to explore the island and socialize with, hence a hostel would be ideal. My budget is for about <$40 USD per night.
Will anything be available in my price range? Any recommendations? |

Unlike some of the Gulf Islands, Phuket or Krabi I don't think I have ever seen a hostel on Phi-Phi. Phi-phi is a pretty small island (group of small islands and rocks).
On the good news side, getting a hotel room is certainly within your budget or going to Phuket or Krabi and then an overnight package from there to Phi-Phi is also do-able. Depending on the length of your stay (more than a couple of days), Phuket or Krabi are probably better choices to use as your base.

Check out the viking nature resort. Its about 1k from town but worth it. Secluded on their own beach and they have a dining area too.
We walked into town at nights to grab cases of beer or to go to a party.
And if you dont want to walk at night you can take a water taxi back fr cheap.
The small staff is really nice and accomidating. the rooms are like cool swiss family robinson huts with porches and showers and bathrooms.
I think we payed about 10 bucks US a night |

Sorry but I can't tell of a hotel however book before you go to avoid the bloodsuckers who appear when you get off the boat. There are similar bloodsuckers when getting off the ferry to Phuket. Most of them pose as taxi drivers concerned about whether you will find accomidation.
Don't get accomidation from the bloodsuckers at the airport. They take a pound of flesh. You'll end up with a dinky little room with a continental breakfast. |

There are a few cheap places. I can't remember the name of the one we were in earlier this year - it's right across from another dorm style place called 'the rock'. It was more expensive than anywhere else in Thailand, but WAY less than the other crap on Phi Phi. It was also kind of a dump. When you get off the boat to the island, pass the vultures by and walk down the dirt path to the far beach. There are a few cheap rooms over there. Try to find the place called 'the Rock' - if I remember correctly the cheapest places were right around there. |
