Source?
I use Mr. Bean during camps and occasional after school classes. Simple Q&A about what happened in the episodes let's students practice their English and have a good time at the same time. |

Yes, never mind the sad curriculum, or severe lack of English ability in many of the Korean English teachers, or the multiple choice English tests with ambiguous answers that determine one's entire future by the time you're in third grade middle school... |

I'm sure their are a lot of teachers that just use Mr. Bean or Americas Funny Videos. Just to kill time with their students. |

Mr Bean can be used in the same way as flashcards are used, as a lively way of eliciting language from the students. The advantage of Bean over pictures is its easier to show the activity is happening now if you want to elicit the present continuous and easier to get across the idea that something will//might/is going to happen next if you are eliciting future forms.
The disadvantages of using Bean is that some students have always seen the DVDs before and tell the other students whats going to happen next, usually in Korean. Additionally there is always the danger that, having used some of the clip for elicitation, the teacher will then let it run on till the end without any subsequent tasks. As Mr Bean rarely contains any meaningful dialogue this practice is pedagogically unjustifiable. |
