I recently had my visa extended for an extra four months. Nothing was stamped in my passport but the new expiration date was scribbled in a box on my ARC. I'm guessing this part is normal?

Anyway, supposing that it is normal, would my extended visa be automatically multiple entry (as it was prior to extending), or do I need to go to the immigration office to change it to multiple again? Since there's no new stamp on passport, could I just go to the office to check and see if the visa is multiple entry?

No, your multiple entry privileges are not extended with your visa. If you plan on leaving Korea and returning while on the extension, you need to get a re-entry permit.

However, a week or two ago there was discussion about an announcement by immigration that stated that people on long term visas no longer needed reentry permits. Not sure if it is in effect or not. I would just get a reentry permit to be safe.

If you plan to leave BEFORE Dec. 15 then you DO need to get a re-entry visa.

The announced date of the change (re: re-entry permits) was Dec. 15.
If you are planning to leave AFTER that date then ASK AFTER that date to see if you still need one.

The airport immigration office would be your best bet for either:
a) re-entry if needed (single)
b) information to see if you are exempt under the proposed changes.

.

Either way, wouldn't it be safe to assume you just show up an hour early and get the re-entry permit at the airport?

Was just at immigration on Friday (19th of November) to get a visa extension plus the re-entry permit. Visa extension was the same as in the past. The woman told me that as of December 1st re-entry permits are no longer needed. I asked her 2 more times to be sure. In my head I still don't trust her and I am planning to check at the airport when I leave on the 21st.
