| Who eats quail here? I've eaten plenty of the eggs but if I've seen the actual birds on the menu or in the market I didn't realise it. What do they do with all those layers? |

Never see them here either
Used to eat 'em all the time in Boliva, they're like really good tender chicken. Great meat. |

The Korean word is ߸, and I have seen it for sale as ߸ (roast quail) only in the food tents leading up to Dobongsan Mountain. You might see it at other popular hiking trails, though.
I've also had pheasant here (), in a little country town in ChungCheongBukDo.
Both tasted a lot like Cornish game hen to me, but with a lot more bones. I wish I saw it around more often. |

The picture above is of a bobwhite quail, a different species of bird than the ones in Korea. The ones here are the corturnix quail, a bit smaller.
They are farmed here, sort of like chickens. To find the farm, just buy the eggs at the supermarket and check the label on where they came from. I've been meaning to head to one near where I live and cut a deal with the farmer----make for some nice gourmet cooking.
Also, I've flushed them out in some river bottoms on occasion. Nice to see that they still exist in the wild. |
