what's the best way to reward teachers for signing new students??? new students register each month (it's an adult class).. im supposed to come up with ideas to motivate and come up with incentives to help teachers sign new students or keep a certain number.. what's the best way for both parties to winwin? (our company pays over $50~/hr already btw)

if anyone has experience on the pros and cons of rewarding system.. would be appreciated! thanks

That shouldn't be the responsibility of the teachers. Keeping the students on the other hand, is the responsibility.

If you insist in it though, how about a 250,000 won bonus (at least) for each student or a trip to the local room salon?

Unless youre willing to give me all the school's accounting records, I cant give you amounts because I dont know the school's financial situation.

Obviously, they should get something for every new student they bring in - whether the student stays past one month or not. However, it should not be a requirement that they bring in students - That's primarily the school's job.

For retaining students, something for the teacher for each student that continues past three months (quarterly bonuses). Generally teachers are on one year contracts, so six month or one year bonuses dont provide much ongoing incentive.

kchax,

You asked an obvious question, got the obvious answer, and then got upset about it -- sorry, but that is just silly.

Money is the best way to motivate teachers -- anything else is just empty words or empty gestures, and most of us know that. While it may be nice to be told I am a wonderful teacher, the place where a school proves that they believe the words is on my paycheck. The bottom line is the bottom line.

You should pay the teachers a bonus. The amount should be significant enough to motivate them, but low enough that the school still earns enough profit to stay afloat -- as another poster said, without looking at your books, I can not tell you what that figure is....say a 50/50 split for the first three months, after expenses? I dunno how much that would be, but the idea of a 50/50 split may make the teachers feel more like partners in the business, which might have them more involved in recruiting and retaining students...but that would require some transparency from the school, which it may not be willing to do....

The sex comments, like the one I made about the room salons were just being cheeky. But as far as money goes, what other incentive do you think people will work hard for? Seriously, I would like to know what was on your mind when you made that original post. Did you think that there was some other reward that would motivate teachers? Were you thinking a plaque would do the trick, or a ribbon, or a trophy?

Oh no... it got that way a loooong time ago.

Oh yeah, and in response to your original question most Koreans seem to think the best way to reward someone for bringing in heaps of customers is to give them more work, and get as much as they can out of them before kicking them to the curb.

Yes. "You are a very popular and funny teacher. We have decided to give you 5 more classes." And poor quality teaching is rewarded with less work...hmmm.....

Yes, you are a troll. Try to be a little less obvious next time.

Yes we are English TEACHERS. Not charity workers. We work for money, not for a pat on the head.
