Hey All,
I'm currently getting my passport renewed here in Korea. I'm assuming I have to let immigration know about my new passport, will I need to do anything more with my visa or ARC? I'd like to hear from peoples experience before I need to get in touch with Immigration.
Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I got mine renewed on a flying visit to the UK. When I reentered the country, they presumably updated their system then. I asked if I needed to go to immi and they said I could either carry both old passport with visa and new passport around or go out to immi and get it transferred. I guess in your case, once you've reported the change of passport number to immi, you'll be in the same situation. |

You're meant to go to immigration within 2 weeks of getting a new passport. You fill out a form. They'll put a small stamp in your new passport in which they write your visa status & old passport number. If you have a valid reentry permit, they'll re-stamp that in your new passport. No charge. Your ARC is unaffected.
At least that was my experience. |

You are required (immigration law) to report the change of passport (to immigration) within 14 days of receiving your new passport.
There is no fee. You need to take in your ARC and passport, ill in the application form to notify them of the change. They will update the computer files (so you have no hassles when you try to leave the country) and if you have a re-entry permit, transfer it to the new passport.
If you are American they won't do anything other than update the computer files.

Just a heads up for anyone that may be doing this at the minute.
So I recieved my new passport today. My boss rang immigration double checking what is needed on their side to stamp my new passport. They told her it must be updated within 2 weeks of the passport being issued which in my case was November 5th and due to this I would incure a penalty.
Since I only recieved my passort today I could not bring it to them obviously, so she basically brought the envelope I recieved the passprt in showing the date it was send to me by the embassy in Seoul and told them its redicious that I would have a fine since I only just got it. Anyway they accepted it and there was no fine but its annoying all the same. |
