|
|
When the Cheonan vessel sank, General Walter Sharp, Commander of US-ROK Combined Forces Command, had just the previous day testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee's budget hearnigs for FY2011, about the North Korean threat, eerily warning about the possibility that the North could "even launch an attack on the ROK."
Similarly, the events at Yeonpyeong Island occurred during Korea's FY2011 hearings.
It seems the "military-industrial complex" have gained the most from these incidents, especially since they claim that "lack of preparation" was at fault.
Minister of Defense Kim Tae-young has resigned, but this gives him the luxury of avoiding hard questions. |

I see a big coincidence.
Both attacks were unprovoked and done by beligerent cry-baby states. |

Almost certainly a coincidence.
At the same time I don't think too many Admirals (SK or US) were shedding too many tears over an old Corvette getting sunk so that they could demand an extra billion or two during the latest budget round.
"As you can see Congressman Johnson, the North has demonstrated a dangerous naval capability. One that could even threaten the coast of the U.S. We need your vote to pass spending resolution H.R. 5605 for construction of these new vessels. These vessels will be equipped with the latests in..."
(10 minutes of technobabble later...)
"Will you build it in my district?"
"Absolutely Congressman. Just as long as that funding goes to the Navy and not the Air Force" |
