|

Hey guys,
I may be getting a job offer to teach at a high school in Ansan in the next couple of days. The problem is, I'm not too keen on high school (would rather teach middle or elementary), and it's a little far away from where I want to be (my girlfriend works in a part of Seoul that is 2 hours from there).
The starting date is really early January, therefore I would just need a statewide background check, not the FBI CRC. My question is, if I'm not really sold on teaching there, should I wait around for something better and/or does anyone think I could find something closer to Seoul during the same time period?
I'd like to get back as soon as possible. Am I likely to see many other job offers during that time (I've got one year of experience) or would I have to hold out until Feb./March to get another or go with EPIK.
Also, can anyone compare High School/Middle School/Elementary School experiences in Korea? - last year I worked at an adult Hagwon.
Thanks |

First of all, I think you should get the FBI CRC because you'll need it to get your ARC when you get to Korea, as you will be arriving after Jan 1. Order it ASAP-it takes forever.
Second, you may be able to find something in Seoul--I received, and am still receiving, plenty of offers for jobs in Seoul. However, I am female-which for some reason is preferential- especially for teaching elementary kids. I think a lot of schools are actually advertising for Feb positions now. So I think getting a Seoul job is possible, but you might not get it as soon as you would like. If you think it is worth the wait, then wait! |

Thanks for the response, what kind of recruiters are you using? I'm only using one... |

It's kind of funny-I was using just about every recruiter I could contact but I ended up taking a job with a school I contacted directly. They have been much easier to deal with than a recruiter!! But check out Craigslist Seoul. Seoul-specific recruiters and sometimes Seoul schools post there. Use as many recruiters as you can (but don't tell them that you're doing that). |

Did the job offer come from that school in Mapo Gu that advertised directly here? I know somebody who sent an email with basic English mistakes to them just to see whether they were on the ball or not. They responded by telling her they'd love her to apply and please send her resume.
As for craigslist, what is it about recruiters who are too lousy to pay to advertise on websites like this that makes them worth dealing with? I've got a theory that craigslist recruiters are just coming in on the back of jobs already found and advertised by other recruiters. |

Nope, the school isn't in mapo. I think recruiters/schools might pick to advertise on Craigslist because it's a really popular website. I was just giving the OP a suggestion, just trying to be helpful! |

Thanks for the replies, I need to use a lot more recruiters. My recruiter offered me one job, and I told her I am considering it; she's told me she's tired of dealing with me and that I am changing my mind too much.
Anyone know of any recruiters they've had success with in the past? |
