WARNING!!!!! WARNING!!!!! WARNING!!!!! WARNING!!!!!

So I tried to send 160 Euros to a friend in Europe with KEB two weeks ago. They charged me 8000 won. I got a phone call that there was some problem. They never sent an email. They are now telling me the account number was wrong and that only 59 Euros was returned to my account. They are claiming that a German bank kept the rest of the money. They said they will send me an email about it. I was yelling "theft" and other things on the phone since it doesn't make any sense.

Now, I checked the account number on the form I gave them, and I don't think that was the problem. I do know that they misspelled my name on a wire from me to my account abroad, and I have an account with them, so I think this is their fault. I realize banks like to charge high fees, but I have sent money before and never had a problem like this.

USE EXTREME CAUTION WITH KEB WIRE TRANSFERS!

dont get angry, but explain (with evidence) of how it was their fault.

Get the money

Another thing- was this internet banking? Or at the branch?

It will need to be over the phone, since I am presently out of Korea.

I registered the account info at the branch. I had to register the account info before using internet banking to transfer money from this account. It was rather technical, since it involves country codes and routing numbers. They told me that if the account information was incorrect that they couldn't send the money. What I am now hearing is that the money was in fact sent, but returned minus excessive commissions for a task which was not completed. Something was lost in translation there, but I did double check the account info on the form.

I have used them before without any problem like this, but it would have been better to mail travelers' checks. According to them, almost 2/3 of the transferred amount is now gone! I would have never agreed to these terms if they had been explained.
