I've never had success searching on Dave's.
Sometimes it misdirects to things that are not related.
Most of the time it has trouble loading.
I have to wait a long time before searching.
Honestly, how hard is it to fix the thing?
And if you aren't going to fix it, why not make korussian's post about google searching Dave's a sticky?
Get a little serious about improving this site! Let's work together and help each other keep this the number one used esl board in the world.
Posters have asked you a million times why you haven't fixed this search function. Can you give us a clear and reasonable answer? |

You'll probably find the site mods unwilling to answer you in open forum. It doesn't work that way. I speak from experience. PM one - you stand a better chance at getting an answer. |

I see I've finally succeeded in uploading a new avatar. I've been trying now for a few months to change my avatar, and this time it finally accepted the url. Thanks to whoever is responsible for that. |

Dude, it's not within the mods control. The software this board runs on is outdated and has a crappy search function. The mods can't update that, only Dave can.
Besides, there's an easy and effective workaround.
Use Google as your search function, and after you type in the words that you're looking for, type: site:eslcafe, so it only searches this site. |

Maybe, but the mods can't. Dave bought the rights for this particluar pre-made forum code. I don't know if there is an updated version, but even if there is, he might have to pay for it. He would have to buy a whole new "forum" and port it over or find someway to fix the search himself (unlikely) or ask the company that made it in the first place (hard and costly most likely). The search function probably is on the same level of Dave's mind as the raccoons running out of the forests and subjugating the human race for itheir ravenous sexual appetites |

The mods have no control over the search function anyway. Only the admins do.
Whinge and whine until they update the phpBB software to the latest version. |

Thanks Easter Clark. I didn't see those threads before, nothing useful came up in my search on this board. I've used google before, but I just find it ridiculous that we 1) have to depend on google 2) cannot find any information about the option to use google as none of these threads are ever made into stickies.
It is cool the mods responded in one of these links. Sad they can't do anything about it. |

Yep, the search function is useless. I remember trying to find the location of that huge music mall. The search gave me info about that poor Canadian dude who was decapitated on the bus.(?)
Speaking of how to get to places, there a hospital in Itaewon, but I'm not sure how to get there. Does anyone know the gate # from the subway? Perhaps it's listed there, but I'd rather know first, thanks. |

I believe whinging employs more use of words, and whining employs more long eeeeeelongated high pitched noises. |

Thanks. I've been wondering about that for some time, now. I thought it was like comparing while and whilst. Same-same. |

Here is a REALLY cool search feature! This allows you to add a custom built search engine to your web browser that will google search ESL cafe. This only works if you use firefox.
1) Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3682 and install this plugin.
2) Go to http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=006359271486458796786%3Azldpir6y9yy and right click in the search box.
3) Select "add to search bar"...
4) Now you have your own Firefox custom built google search engine that searches the Korean Forums.
Sweet huh?
5) Finally, go back to Firefox and select "tools" -> "add ons" and disable the "add to search bar" plug in. (it has a bug and screws up your ability to "manage your search engines"... |
