Tourist visa = no.
Visa waiver entry on arrival stamp = yes.
Immigration won't check (unless there is something funny about your file or you raise suspicions with the immigration officer) but the airline may not let you board without onward or return passage.

If you have a backup story for the airline (taking the ferry somewhere) they'll probably let you on. It also helps a bit if you've got a passport with extensive travel on it. |
